It sounds like something from a "Hood" movie but its not, its Portarlington of all places....just goes to show the way the town is heading. Someone could have so easily been hit at that hour of the night when a crowd is gathering outside the door and 2 shots are fired at random from a moving car. Madness!!!

The rumour (and I say rumour, cos every time I hear something I hear another different story from someone else) is that it was some young guy was refused entry to the nightclub, then went home and came back to intimidate the bouncers.

Port's been in the news for a few bad things lately, a stabbing and a hit & run and now this :(

think it's a bit more sinister than that

Drug dealers link to Port' drive-by
THE DRIVE-BY shooting in Portarlington last weekend may be linked to Dublin drug dealers.
A Garda investigation has been launched into the incident at Main Street at 11.25pm on Saturday night last, June 30. Gardai confirmed that as a car drove past the East End Hotel at least two shots were fired in the direction of the hotel.
No patrons were on their way into the hotel at the time of the incident but three security men were on duty. It is not clear if the shots were aimed at the doormen. While no one was injured Gardai said the security men were very lucky to escape the the shots which hit a wall. At least two men were in the car which sped off in the direction of Monasterevin.
Shortly afterwards a blue Audi A3, registration 05 D 61158 was discovered in flames on a back road on the outskirts of town near the SIAC plant. This car had been stolen on May 22 in Maynooth, Co. Kildare.
It has not been confirmed if this was used in the shooting but Gardaí want to hear from anybody who might know about its movements since being stolen and, in particular, on the day of the shooting. The hotel vicinity and car were preserved for technical examination and the investigation is on-going.
No motive has emerged for the attack but it is understood that the town has become home to an element which has links to the Dublin drug trade. A recent seizure of €1million worth of heroin in the capital has been linked to individuals resident in Portarlingon.

Ah yeah, blame the blow-in Dubs* :D:D

kikel, don't worry, I still love Port, don't forget absolutely everywhere has its fair share of troubles, most of the estates are lovely.

*I'm one of them. A blow-in. Not a link to the Dublin drug trade!!

In fairness guys port has become a bad area as of late, i've lived there for 31 years and been going to the hotel since i was 14 and the crowd that are there now are getting more and more rowdy...... its only a matter of time before someone gets killed in there.

Port has for a long time been a rough place and these shootings are nothing new. If you look back you will see a history of big drug dealing coupled with the odd shooting peppered in it's history for the past 15 years. There are great people who live there but stilil the area could do with some sorting out.

As the town slowly developed into a commuter belt town to Dublin I thought it would change as it would bring people with decent jobs and families.

I too grew up near Portarlington. I now work in Dublin but am down home most weekends. I avoid Portarlington though because of the violent element that now lives/socialises there. I have a friend who is a taxi driver and he says that the fighting on the streets every Saturday night is frightening.

I heard a story of how one guard was beaten up near the Railway bar. The guards are afraid to confront the mobs cos they know they're outnumbered and out-weaponed.

Truely Truely awful, and the funny thing is, there are people who go to the hotel, exist from the hrs of 12 - 2am, then seem to completely vanish from the town only to re-appear the following saturday at 12am, some sort of scum fuelled time warp....:D
