Well with a new build coming up I (my dad) dont have alot of money to spend. The closer I can this too €1000 the better.

    EVGA GeForce 8800GTS KO ACS3 640MB GDDR3 , HDCP, PCI-Express, 2xDVI-I, 320bit
    433.00

    Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P, P35, Socket-775, ATX, GbLAN, DDR2, 1333FSB, 2xPCI-Ex16
    137.00

    Intel Pentium E2140 1.6GHz Socket LGA775, 1MB, BOXED w/fan
    75.01

    OCZ DDR2 PC6400 2048MB KIT, Titanium XTC, w/two 1024MB, CL4-4-4-15, EPP
    133.00

Antec Performance One P180 Miditower, Black, Aluminum (Without PSU)
    149.00

AKASA Amber Series Ultra quiet Fan 120mm Twin ball bearing, 18 db(A)
    39.00 (getting 3)

Fortron/Source Epsilon 700W, Blue Fan, Active PFC, ATX/EPS, SLI, 20/24pin
    143.00

Samsung DVD±RW burner, SH-S183A, 18x, Dual, Black, OEM, SATA
    67.80 (getting 2)

    Noctua NH-U12F, 4 Dual-Heat-Pipes, 120mm fan, 17dB(A), socket 775/754/939/940/AM2
    61.00

    Zalman 5.25" 6-Channel Fan Control
    33.00

    Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 500GB SATA2 16MB 7200RPM
    99.95

    Acer 19" LCD AL1916WAs TCO99 Monitor, Widescreen, Silver/Black, 500:1, 8ms
    179.00

Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard, LCD, USB, US Layout
    75.00

Logitech MX518 Optical Mouse, USB, PS/2
    43.50

    Total:1,668.26

    That is from komplett.ie
I would really preferr to buy all from the one website.
I chose the stuff with overclocking in mind I would like to get the E2140 as close to 3.0ghz as possible if not more. Apperntly they are hot chips therefore I have some..5 or 6 fans (some come with the case) and a nice big hsf. I already have a 400gb hdd so I could probably ditch the new one If I had to. I chose the MoBo because it should be a good overclocker and I can go SLI and Quadcore at upgrade time. The grafics card is more bling and future proof. I could probably ease back on it but I dont want to spend much money in the future.

So, where can I cut back? and will this all work together?

    Thanks

Spec that up at www.hardwareversand.de for starters.

so spec the rest up on hardwareversand and get the E2*** elsewhere? you'll save about 200 on the 8800gts alone..

Yeah a 320mb gts would be better a option unless you are going to upgrade to a big monitor.

My brother has a 22" that it might get a bit of use with. It's more for not going to have low fps for the next while and I can overclock to Ultra spec? I will do out a minimum spec over the 2 in a little while.
I always liked that case... Guess I will go for the P180.

Will I notice much differnce between the EVGA and the Asus branded 8800's? Or any other brand for that matter

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,227 ✭✭✭awhir

nope no diffrence in any stock brand

So they all overclock equally? and say I got a Club 3d now I could get an EVGA for SLI in the future?

  • Registered Users Posts: 377 ✭✭CarefulNow

For SLI the cards have to be identical I think.

EVGA, Club3D, Asus etc. are all identical, all designed by Nvidia and manufactured by Foxconn. To the OP go GTS 320 for that res without a doubt.

Yeah, difference comes down to the box, warranty and bundled software. Seeing as you will be downloading the latest drivers anyway and most bundled software these days is a letdown even for high end cards, get the cheapest one you can.

I bought an XFX 8800 GTS 320MB of HV for €245, came with a cd including drivers and 2 games, both from over 5 years ago.

Get a Scythe Infinity over the Noctua it's better and cheaper (€39 @ hardwareversand). You can get the 320GB Samsung for €65 also at hardwareversand, I'd upgrade the CPU to an E4300 for an extra €21. Ditch the Akasa Amber's they suck, S-flex's are a lot better and finally get an asus IP35 for 113.

Will do but I havnt heard anyting (good) about the Asus for overclocking. It's mainly the gigabyte and Asus P5B
EDIT: thinking of going all out on the Infinity - 4 fans? I would go for the E4300 but I am looking for the lowest possble and be able to upgrade then too quadcore this time nextyear (maybe)

The IP35 should be good, it's basically the same as the Pro version less some of the features like IO panel cmos clear switch and a few other minor things. Any P35 will clock pretty well, 500FSB should be easily doable with a bit of tweaking. On the infinity two fans in push-><-push has been shown to be best, I'll find the link, also mount it with bolts if possible the stock mounting system isn't great. I'd strongly suggest you go with the E4300, for ~€20 more it's worth it.

Thats about €1250. Not bad but would love it to be less.
The mobo: it doesnt have SLI so SLI upgrade in a year or 2 wont quite work out :(
I could probably same another 2--30 quid on the keyboard but I really want that one. Any ideas where I could go less rather than up?

I ordered 5 of the Sflex fans: 1 more for the Scythe, then 4 for the case. Althought I could probably take away 2 and save 22 quid. I think 3 fans come with the case.

Dang, those S-Flex's add up. I'd tell you to get Yate-Loons but ChilledPC is the only place in Europe that sells them. Unless you really want the KB, get a saitek eclipse, damn fine keyboard and about half the price. Ditch the fan controller, just get fairly silent fans to start with and you can always 7v mod them if you want. I'd be very wary of that PSU too it has all the hallmarks of a bad topower/channel well build, it has only 35A on the 12v rail, go for the 550W Be Quiet! over that.

    Mmmmkay.
So many options is getting me confused. I dont want to boost the price up at all but I will do it for the PSU and I dont want to risk a spike and kill the system.

Fans: I kinda over did how many fans I should get. I could get 2 (for the case only) and stay stock with the HSF. I would like a controller as the case is not going to have easy acsess once it is in.

Case: I like that case but where it is going it wont be seen unless I take a drill and a jigsaw to my desk and cut a window in the desk:D Actualy... Thats an idea. Also, are those cases good cooling and quiet?

Graphics: Since they all seem to be the same I would rather same 40 eurons with the Club3d card.

DVD: I will only get 1 and take the CD-RW from this. Leaving this with jsut a dvd-rom.

Keyboard: I actualy did up a cheaper list after that which I didn't post. the Saitek Elipse was the keyboard I used.

HDD: I currently have a 400GB HDD in this which will most likely be formatted and put into the new pc, the 250 (may even go less) is only to keep this rig running as it has the power to run CSS ;) and it is good enough for media and office use.

Monitor: I have decided to get a 19" widescreen from a mate for 159 ;-/

I think that is evrything. I will check through OcUK for some deals.
Catalst: I dont have an account with Elara and cant make one with out a card to pay... Think you could post the list up here?

    Thanks all...
