Morning All, wondering if some of tha Alfa specialists on here can help.

I have a spare key for a new Alfa 159 here to send on to a driver as it was missing when he collected the car. What I'm wondering is, does he definately have to go in to an Alfa dealers to get the key coded to the car, or can it be done by himself with a combnination of opening the doors turning the key etc?

All help greatly appreciated as the driver in question is miles from an Alfa dealership.

As far as I know the turning of keys and opening doors isn't done on Fiats or Alfas, was the key ordered in as a part?

Dealer only Job, as far as I know the car must be plugged into the examiner software to code the keys. In the 159 its not a key as such, its a card like used in the Renault Megane / Lagunas with a start button

Cheers guys, I feared as much. Key was ordered as a part as the spare wasn't left for the driver when he collected.

Nearest Alfa dealer in the Republic to him is approx. 100 mile round trip, or closer in NI. He'll have fun when it comes to service time as we'll only get it done in an Alfa dealer in the Republic.

Apart from the Alfa badge and slightly different shape it could be a VW Passat / BMW / Ford (keyless entry) key / card thingy.
