That Trish DVD is actually pretty decent! I got my one free with Vengeance 04 (i think), only watched it the once expecting it to be a pile of balls, and being pleasantly surprised.

    Puroresu DVD Sampler at IVPVideos.com

First of all, what makes this sampler special is not just the various matches from different promotions, but the price. IVPVideos is selling this DVD for only 25 cents.

    You can get it here:

    http://new.ivpvideos2.com/product_in...oducts_id=1319

    Here is the full line-up:

Kenta Kobashi, Tamon Honda, and Kanemaru vs. Morishima, Yone, and KENTA (NOAH, 2/17/06)
Giant Bernard vs. Yuji Nagata (NJPW, 4/30/06)
Ryo Saito, Dragon Kid, and Horiguchi vs. CIMA, Don Fujii, and Naruki Doi (Dragon Gate, 7/3/05)
Big Japan Death Match Championship: Takashi Sasaki vs. Naoki Numazawa (BJPW, 6/26/06)
Misawa, Kenta Kobashi, and Jun Akiyama vs. Kawada, Akira Taue, and Fuchi (AJPW, 1993)
Mayumi Ozaki and Dynamite Kansai vs. Toshiyo Yamada and Manami Toyota (AJW, 11/26/92)
Ebessan vs. Kushinbo Kamen (Osaka Pro, 2/1/03)

    Kenta Kobashi/Tamon Honda/Kanemaru vs. Takeshi Morishima/Mohammed Yone/KENTA

KENTA/Kobashi was set to happen a few weeks after this match so they were more or less the focus of the bout. This match is pretty entertaining, despite these six man tags being so hard for me to get into. It had alot of fun spots and Morishima definately stole the show. Overall, did a great job of setting up KENTA/Kobashi.

    Giant Bernard vs. Yuji Nagata

As far as storytelling and crowd heat, it doesn't get much better than this. Now if you've only seen Giant Bernard (A-Train) in WWE, it's hard to picture him in a great match. By the time this match took place, he had been in Japan for awhile and had greatly improved his game since he was able to do more as his moveset was not limited. Bernard did a tremendous job of selling all the way through. He hit a Baldo Bomb, Liger Bomb and Bernard Driver for the win. This could very well have been not only Giant Bernard's best match in 2006 but New Japan's match of 2006, too. If you haven't seen a post-WWE Giant Bernard, you damn sure need to get this and see how much he has grown the past few years.

    Ryo Saito/Dragon Kid/Genki Horiguchi vs. CIMA/Don Fujii/Naruki Doi

Okay now, this match is heavily clipped. So I really cannot review it. But it'll give you a good idea of what Dragon Gate is about if you've never seen it.

    Takashi Sasaki vs. Naoki Numazawa

Okay, I admit. Light tube deathmatches are not my favorite. They are done far too much in Big Japan. In this one however, they've done a bit differently as a cage was used here. A big move off the top of the cage was sick. Other than that the match did little to hold my attention as most the weapon spots I had seen many many times. In short, light tube matches get old after awhile since there are only so many things you can do with these weapons.

    Mitsuharu Misawa/Kenta Kobashi/Jun Akiyama vs. Toshiaki Kawada/Akira Taue/Fuchi

This match was a very solid bout from All Japan's glory years. Whenever you have the best workers from the early 90's in the same match, it is bound to be good. My only beef with this match is that on this DVD it's joined in progress. All Japan matches just don't seem as good without the early build up. They all hit their big moves and the crowd was very much into it. Overall, a great match that was held back only by the fact that it was not shown in it's entirety.

Mayumi Ozaki/Dynamite Kansai vs. Toshiyo Yamada/Manami Toyota

This match, for those unaware, is from one of the most important shows in Joshi history...Dream Rush. Too bad about 15 minutes were missing out of the 45 minutes since they only gave you the 3rd fall of the match up. Still a damn good match though. All four women performed well in this match and pulled off highly athletic moves not seen for years to come in North America. Overall, a very entertaining contest and totally fun to watch.

    Ebessan vs. Kushinbo Kamen

This was a comedy match which the crowd really seemed to enjoy. I cannot describe all the comedy spots in this match as they're hard to describe lol. I will just say that I myself enjoyed it but this type of match is not for everyone.

    Summary

The main goal of this sampler is to give the newbie to japanese wrestling a variety of matches, and they achieved this. Granted, the matches are not the "Best of" each promotion but the purpose of it is to show you seven different japanese wrestling matches to give you the chance to see if any peak your interest. If you haven't gotten this very solid yet very cheap sampler as of yet. Do your yourself a favor and check it out.

£18 doesn't sound too bad at all although €28 is a bit too rich for my blood.

I might have a few of them matches on a few compilation tapes and I think I have the old old old best of SNME from the dark ages. I'll pick it up if the price's right.
Wonder if Jesse Ventura's commentary was left intact ?

That looks very good. Ill wait until the price comes down a tad on it first though. This christmas lark is taking its toll.

Jim Ross noted in his blog at www.JRsBarBQ.com that he was consulting with World Wrestling Entertainment on a planned Greatest Tag Teams DVD project that would be released later this year.

I have also heard that WWE is in the process of editing a DVD set devoted to the "Greatest Stars of the 90s" which would be a sequel to a similar title devoted to 1980s stars. The DVD would obviously chronicle stars from the Monday Night Wars, the Attitude era and the rise of the original ECW, so it should be interesting to see who ends up profiled. The DVD is set for an April release right now.

They would make money on the wrestlemania game coming up if they put savage and foley in it?
But they wont cos it grinds vinces gears.

Id expect the later part of that 90s dvd to be unofficially titled something like "The rise of HHH"

    Are you f*cking kidding me?
Given how HHH's first title reign didn't happen until 1999, and his push didn't actually start until December, how in Gods green earth can you (and people like you) actually justify that statement?

It's idiocy like that, is why myself (and possibly others) stopped f*cking posting here. Did Triple H have a rise? Yes, did it happen in the 90s? Uh, that would be a resounding no. That was saved for the likes of Bret Hart, Steve Austin, Rock, Undertaker even Hogan can get one in there thanks to nWo resurrection, You can lump in Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, who for all intents and purposes were jobbers until 1992!

Of course, HHHatred blinds people so much that they conveniently forget when his push started.

Suffering sweet sh*t on a stick, just ban me again already!

Aw shawn i love your honesty :pac:

But i know exactly what your getting at and i do agree with you but my post was meaning how much wwe loves HHH could mean that he has a lot of emphasis on a "the 90s DVD".

It was just a bit of sarcasm. :o

My Dad threw out every single DVD/VHS I had as soon as I moved abroad. WWF/E, WCW, ECW, CZW, XPW, NOAH, NJPW, AJPW, more US and Japanese indies, shoots, documentaries, complilations. Also, about 130 issues of Powerslam from #4 to 120-something. It took me a while to collect all those videos/DVD's. Funny thing is, I'm really not that bothered. Guess that aspect of my life is done with. Hell, if I'd had my choice, my Dad would've sold 'em and at least have made some money.

Oh well. On the plus side, if you live in Laois, youm might want to head to your local skip. It could be your day!
