    Hey folks,

Really quick one for you, currently drive a 1.9TDi Golf Diesel DSG and want to change. Not sure what to get other than it should be an automatic diesel. Ideas anyone?

Start by driving them all, see what you like. When you've done that, then start looking at the relative merits of your particular favourites.

    a)willing to pay cash
    b)no trade-in

Makes absolutely no difference. In fact, i'm not sure that the law permits the garage to take €30k in cash in payment. Also, be aware that the tern 'cash deal' has nothing to do with actual cash, it simply means buying a car without a trade-in.

Depends on the car, how well it is priced, and how keen the garage is to shift it quickly.

May be easier just to paint 'I'm an insecure tosser' on the side of the Golf.;) Seriously though, the OP is driving a Golf. I'd imagine he's looking for a car, not an SUV.

I bought a Passat Highline 2.0 Tdi 140BHP with the Monte Carlo Sports pack and I'm very happy with it. You could look at a similar car with a DSG gearbox but you'll have to come down to a 06 or else pay a bit extra.

lol... X5 is a good SUV and if the OP has €35k to spend he could do worse.

Buy in NI or the UK and pay the VRT if you're thinking 2nd hand.
Think of the car that you would get for 35k.
If not how about the Audi A4 or are they gone up in price as well?
Superb car and extremely comfortable..as for BMWs every scumbag seems to have one these days.

No it's not!!! it's a good looking soccer mom car, but is most not a good SUV. They don't even come equipped with off-road tyres!!

you could do worse alright, you could set fire to the 35k instead. Heres a 330D:

I know thats 8k under budget, you could use that money to upgrade the number plate to 04.

That's a lot of money. What about an audi allroad?

    what are your requirements?

id go with the bmw 330/530d personally

anyone know if the alfa gt comes with an auto

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,863 ✭✭✭RobAMerc

    You'd get a 330cd for that I would imagine.
Also get a C220 Cdi kitted out a bit - not as good as the beemer but a nice motor. - plus folk looking for Mercs normally like autos - not so sure about the auto beemer.

    Maybe a new A3 ?

It's far more expensive than an A6, and worse at everything except crossing fields.

There are a lot of relatively new diesel passat 4motions going for 6-7,000 pounds on the autotrader.

    Why a 530 and not a 520? When they're cheaper...

Lol I actually have no idea. I was thinking of getting a 520D .... not think that there is a difference in the 530D etc except for the price and a few specifications...

well if you are into cars and want a fast car the 530 is much faster than the 520, its also a 6cyl engine vs 4cyl, therefore it sounds better (for a diesel)
