Anybody got any vids of very risky and dodgy landings by pilots?

I have this one where a pilot lands a 737 into heathrow with virtually zero visibility: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=5f0_1183152276

Isn't Heathrow Cat IIIc with full autoland? Routine if so.

    Yes it is.

The sort of landing in the video (difficulty wise) is as common as muck.

People dont realise how many flights are done by Autoland I guess, its still impressive to watch though and must be somewhat nervewracking to put so much trust in the ILS/Autopilots

The honduras one is fantastic, they must really love flying that approach, one of the few times they get to really fly a plane any more...

Autoland can only be done of course if the aircraft has it, and if the airline policy permits it

    I landed a Schweizer 300cbi with a 20kt tailwind with only 6hrs solo time.was quite impressed that i didnt kill myself :D

lol...nice?wouldnt exactly call it nice....this is what happens when u land with a tail wind http://youtube.com/watch?v=QKzVi-TbAHQ
Except i was in a 2seater helicopter and by myself....you can imagine how difficult it was to keep it under control and try and land it safely when u are less than 50ft above the ground and you are swaying all over the runway and droping like a stone at the same time!

Why did you not land into wind, wouldn't it make more sense?
I presume if it was 20 knots there were somethings on the ground to indicate the direction of wind ?
If no wind socks or vanes I was taught you are meant to try and read wind direction usng ground features like trees, water, smoke.
Did you rely on somebody on radio telling you the wind direction and it had changed ?

I am not allowed discuss …

I think I have already told the story where I was in a BA737 cockpit going into Berlin back in the 80's

The visability was similar to the one in the clip.....then at 50ft when it was reasonably clear the FO flicked off the autoland and landed it manually... because he had to get a `manual landing on his log-book

Perhaps some CPL's could fill in the gaps here .

All I can say is it's total trust in the machine and hope you have the systems co-ordinated correctly otherwise you end up landing on a hotel ( a'la BA 747 about 2 years ago at LHR ). I believe that is why most gates at airports have the exact co-ordniates written on the side of them, so they can program them in so the aeorplane knows where it is. ( I am open to correction here I am not an expert ).. perhaps this is automated nowadays ?

wind direction changed very quickly and i didnt realise.Couldnt see the wind sock with the sun! managed to land it safely anyway.:D

Yeah remeber taking off with tailwind in PA28 in Florida.
The near windsock was reading a wind direction that sugested runway 04, and last departing aircraft also used runway 04. So we also went for 04.
Trouble was halfway down 5000 ft runway we were still earth bound.
My buddy (now airline pilot) spotted we just weren't taking off and he inferred I was rather heavier than he expected.

Anyway as we inched into air we spotted wind triangle thingy pointing in other direction.
After that we had nice uneventful flight all the way to Titusville and Cape Canaveral, where I had to put my bag in a dog kennel. But that's another story.

That clip is sweet....not really a dangerous landing though, provided conditions werent exceeding the reduced autoland crosswind limit (which they wouldnt have been considering the thick fog). Really cool video though!

I've seen these. Never seen them at an Irish airport, but have seen them in many spanish airports

That looked lovely; nice oval circuit and no flare. Gets very close to the peak before the threshold, heart in mouth time there!

    That honduras video rocks!

While I was camped out at a Florida DropZone I saw some pretty funky landings, especially by our great Twin Otter pilot, Julie. Once I saw her come in over the trees in line with the runway while a slower parachute was coming in at 90 degrees from her, about 100 yards from the end of the runway, 150 ft up. Go around? Not a chance - continued her descent rate and steered around the canopy. The otter was still banked 45 degrees from the runway as she started her flare. Bank-flare-land. Yike. I also saw 5 planes - 3 otters and 2 CASAs all land within 10 seconds of each other on different parts of the same runway.

Note that the skydiver who was landing got out of the same plane 14000 ft earlier. I refused to do a descent in the plane as it was generally too terrifying - normally the last guys out of the plane would be landing as Julie was taxing to pick up a new load of jumpers. Anything loose like pens or people not strapped down would float around...

    Pilots are scary people sometimes.
