Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sound guy. You show me the exact rule, I've broken in the adverts rules!
The only rule that could come near it is the one where a product is in short demand and someone is selling it for over the RRP.

    1. I did not sell it for over the RRP or even the RRP, I sold it for 100 below the RRP.
    2. The xbox360 is far from short in numbers and hugely in demand.

    Show me the rule!!!

Is that true? They can't sell their Xboxes on adverts because they'd make a profit? Is that not a daft rule? Time to go to eBay or Jumbletown or BuyandSell so.

    Ok:

"Profiteering, in all its forms is prohibited on adverts.ie."

Is that clear enough for you?

    OK let see then;

    Profiteering

Profiteering, in all its forms is prohibited on adverts.ie. This does not apply only to tickets, but to all goods/services sold on adverts.ie. Profiteering is defined as: To make excessive profits on goods in short supply., such as the reselling of highly sought items (e.g. game consoles being sold in the run-up to Christmas above face value plus any reasonable postage or delivery charges).

I cannot see how this is profiteering when it is being sold below RRP and the xbox 360 can be picked up in any number of stores?

This seems like some people are getting grumpy because they did not get one!

Banning people for selling these units to people who are happy to buy them seems counterproductive.

I think they are being banned for "boasting or advertising the fact" that they bought them at a lower price and then were going to sell them for a higher price.
Adverts.ie (the spinoff off For Sale on boards.ie) is not like B&S and hopefully never will be
and the Mods make the point that they do not want what happens on B&S going on here.

Mind you if somebody else then comes onto adverts and posts an ad like
"XBOX 360 for sale, brand new, selling for €100 under price list"
    wonder what would happen then?

If the mods really are banning people for boasting then I think we have seen the thin end of the wedge :(

    What next?

I wasnt going to ban anyone for what happened until it got reported on adverts and I seen this thread.

If I seen nothing here about the two users in question buying them at €199 then nobody would be the wiser.
But all the evidence is all here in this thread for everyone to see.

Its an adverts rule that was broken.

couldnt agree more GrayArea (how apt!). They did not profiteer. simple as.

    no short supply.
not above face value. ergo not excessive

all new 360's so by definition of this ban can only be sold for less than €200 on adverts.ie? ridiculous. ban adverts for draconian law

I agree with the ban, there was a 'short supply' issue as Dunnes only
had a limited/small number at the reduced price. Whilst I personally
was not looking for a cheap 360 (I bought mine at launch), I feel that
someone buying one cheap with a motive for resale at a higher price
is profiteering. I'd rather see a genuine boards member noticing a bargain
in 'bargain alerts' and purchasing one for their own use than witness
someone watching 'bargain alerts' with a view of snapping up an offer
so the can resell on adverts.ie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,266 ✭✭✭00sully

Dunnes actually had plenty of stock at RRP. fact.

    This is a draconian law!
    How does business fundamentaly work.....
    A simple example, stocks/shares.....
Buy low, sell high => profit
    (I'm not a business student)

As I said I wanted a laptop, was gutted I didn't get it.
Now if someone was selling one on adverts for an amount under the rrp and I was happy to pay....then whats the problem.

I'd love to call you all the names under the sun for banning me but unfortunately that would get me banned from here too.

Even some of your other mods don't agree!
I'm really really really p*ssed off with this.

    BAN THE BAN

You are talking pure sh*t granhermano!!

Do you think I saw it on boards bargain alerts????
I actually got a txt from my mother at 8.30am waking me up (I work nights) to let me know it was on.

And saying "genuine boards members"??? Whats that about? I've been on boards since December 03 and posting, so how does that not make me a "genuine" boards member???

Sorry Spankeh but you are wrong.
As greyarea posted, you have not printed the whole profiterring rule.
    1. Goods must be in short supply.......they are no way in short supply.
    2. Not selling above the RRP.....I didn't sell for above the RRP, I sold 1/4 of the price below it.

    Apologies for multiple posts

I think by that he means people that wanted to make a genuine purchase, ie to own it, not someone that was purchasing to resell at a profit.

Getting abusive with people on this board is not going to help your case, and you could just end up banned from this board too. There is an Adverts support board here, might be better to take it up there if you have an issue with an Adverts ban.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,008 ✭✭✭✭Kintarō Hattori

Not that it makes any difference but I agree with the ban. You bought it with the intention of selling it on adverts and making a profit. Although you would have sold it for less than the rrp, that doesn't excuse your original intentions. That goes against the spirit of boards and adverts.

    Anyways... Back to topic...

Did anyone get one? They had tickets they were handing out for teles. laptops and 360's, and the people whoi didnt queue got them. As they gave the tickets on the far side of where people were queuing. Thats not a very good explaination, but they people who didnt queue and then skipped the line got them all from what i saw.

Plus there was a bit of a fight, and some eejit brought their baby and was right up front, with about 100 people pushing behind her. And she was giving out that her baby was cryin coz of us

If they were not in short supply, everyone who wanted a 360 at 50%
of RRP would have been able to buy one and you would not have been
able to sell the one you purchased for profit.

And I'm awaiting my apology for your personal abuse.

I'll answer one more post from you only, for fear of you inducing me to getting banned.

There was no personal abuse....saying you were talking rubbish is not a personal abuse, it means that I 100% don't agree with you opinion. Personal abuse would be calleing you a name, which I didn't do.

btw why haven't you answered the genuine member thing, if your going to play that game then, I want an apology for that, I feel hurt by your comment!!

Mods, I have no intention of offending anyone, and will not be replying to this thread any more with regards to my ban from adverts, I will take it to the board koneko pointed me too.
I will only reply with regard to the original topic.

Saying he is full of **** is personal abuse i'd imagine. Reported as such anyway.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,330 ✭✭✭Gran Hermano

Koneko was able to understand what i meant by genuine, allow me to clarify
for those unable to do so; by 'genuine' I meant a user on boards.ie who was
looking to purchase one of the limited number of cheap 360s that Dunnes
had on offer for a limited period of time for their own personal use rather
than purchasing one when they had no intention of using but were just
purchasing with the sole intention of reselling on adverts.ie for a profit.
You are talking pure sh*t granhermano!!
is what I was referring to as abuse

big big difference between saying someone is full of sh1t and that they are talking pure sh1t.

The ban is a complete load of me bollox.

    A) Do you think the person who buys a 360 at 75% of the RRP feels cheated

    B) Do you think no one has ever made a profit from a sale on adverts

Exactly, you're looking at it from a business perspective, one of profit (RE: Profiteering). The face value of your 360 was 200 euro, the RRP is only a recommended number.

People are annoyed because you have taken consoles away from people like Blitzkreg only to profit from them. I agree with the ban, because I like the spirit off adverts, however I can understand your actions, who doesn't like an easy 100?

Now, go get a towel, soak up the milk, get a new glass and bring it to a different room (site).

I now know what you now meant by genuine, don't agree, but what the hell.

Abuse...I don't see how that could be offensive, but if it offended you I apologise. My intentions are not to offend anyone. I hope accept my apology and understand it is not personal. As in the nature of forums, you will find different opinions, no matter what is being talked about, and I may have a different opinion but do not set out to offend.

close this stupid thread, i came here to read about the topic, not this ****.
chaps hardly gonna sell the bleeding thing at the price he bought it.
You sell to make profit. No one has to buy his 360. But people did, thats their choice.

Agreed, plus the fact he boasts about it in this thread that he paid 200 for it and he got 300 for it on adverts is a joke and the ban is justified!!
