Exhaust gas in cabin

There is a smell of exhaust gas in my old fiesta, I've checked the manifold, pipe all along, silencer, rear boot rubbers, to make sure I'm not imaging it what is the gas I need to measure is it "carbon monoxide"? (I'll be able to borrow a metre)
