NICE, didn't know people were doing home roasting!! How'd they turn out? Is it difficult?

Hey James - Hope you managed to give the hand grinder a spin :)

We have a few of us here doing a bit of home roasting. To be fair I don't get to do it half as much as I'd like - and most of the time I'm buying the lower end of the pricing scale in green beans. But its rewarding and definitely makes you appreciate a bit more the work of the roasters.

I did indeed thanks, A lot more spins that I anticipated but that could have been down to grinding a little too fine for Aeropress. Will test again today with the new 3fe sub.

So you buy green from the likes of Square Mile, then try roast to a certain profile? I'd say there's a lot of watching/smelling/watching/smelling.

It's more watching and listening, you do not want to smell roasting coffee, it smells the complete opposite to what you tihnk it will :D

Haha ah right, I thought there'd be some smelling involved. What do you listen for? Cracks?

Thats it first crack and then there is a second crack, and then if you leave it it'll be on fire :P

Seriously though to date I've just bought my green from Steve @ Hasbean. My next batch will definitely be purchased from CoffeeMojo but I've still got over 3kgs of green to get through.

That's a lot of bean. I presume they keep a lot longer so at least you've time to get through them.
