I really want to get my girl's bladder (or whatever) problem sorted before she starts school in September so as a last resort we're trying desmotabs. Has anyone any experience of these, good or otherwise?

My son has just recently started Desmotab melts. He is 6 1/2 and bedwets almost every night. We have tried star charts which worked well initially for about a month but then he started wetting more frequently, so following advice from a specialist in Tallaght Hospital we have started Desmotabs. He was initally on 120mg and after 3 weeks with no success they have doubled the dose. Last night was the first night on this dose and he was wet by 5.30 am. My undestanding of this is if it doesn't work the first night it is unlikely to work at all. This doesn't work for 3 out of 10 kids. Have you spoken to your GP about this, it might be worth asking to see a specialist?

Hope this is of some help

Hurray a reply! I was beginning to think we were all alone in this:(

My daughter started on the desmotabs 2 weeks ago and we have had one dry night about a week ago. The only difference that I see is that she is no longer wet by 10.30-11pm. She is only 5 but the reason for trying the tabs so young is that her problem is by day also. My GP's thinking is that if she gets used to being dry in the morning and the praise and reward that comes with that then that will lead to more effort to stay dry by day.... not working so far :( but we'll keep going.
I thought I read somewhere that it can take 10- 14 days to see the effects. I'm not sure I would want to put my little one on a stronger dose at her age. I think I'll push to see a specialist if we have no success within a month.
Theyre bloomin' expensive though €75 for one months supply. Does that change if the dose doubles?

Yes the price doubles, but if you sign up for the drugs payment scheme you just pay the max for one month supply which is 83 euro (I think) and you don't pay anything else for prescription meds for the rest of the family, talk to your chemist about this. It works well for us as I already pay over 70 for an inhaler. What part of the country are you in, if your near Tallaght I could definelty recommend Dr Emma Curtis, we have found her great. Have you tried rewards. We had been attending the public health nurse initially with our son and she told us to reward him in he kept dry for a week (which never happened) when we went to Dr Curtis she told us to reward him for much smaller acheivements, starting with keeping dry from bedtime to 11ish then when he managed that to reward for two night dry (with us lifting him about 11ish) when this happened we streched to 5 nights then 7. He managed to keep dry for a month doing this but eventually seemed to lose interest in the rewards and then started wetting again, but we got a month from it and so far that is the longest we've had in over a year. He was dry for months and then a little over a year ago started wetting at night and they just got more frequent.

good luck with desmotabs hope you have more luck with it then us. were back to the hopsital next month and unless there is a drastic improvement I'm going to ask to try the alarm system.

    Keep me posted
