    hey every1 lol

so i just finished transition year and the subjects i picked were

Accountancy, Biology and Chemistry (i have the hope of getting into medicine)

I also think accountancy should be an easy 100 points as i done business for the first 3 years and we covered profit and loss in great detail

(My business teacher told me LC accountancy is 90% profit and loss and balance sheets)

Anybody who done accountancy for the leaving cert ?
if so fill me in on what its like - the exam itself, main topics etc. thanks for help :)

For accountancy, just keep doing past papers. Fair enough, I did sh!t in it this year, and it was my best subject, but still, I was very well pepared going in(apart from Q9). Pretty much two years of past papers will help. And yes, it is pretty much a hell of a lot of P&L and B/S.

If your comfortable with final a/c's(easier than appear), theres Q1 sorted.
For Section 3, try and keep both options open, very handy, but do specialise in one(its an 80 marker, and they quick).
Section 2 can be a mix. If your going for medicine, your in no doubt someway smart(not all medicine people are smart). its fine, just dont cut down on options on it, otherwise ya get screwed over it.

accounting is a godsend.... but a guaranteed 100? I dunno... It SHOULD have been for many this year, but they mixed things up a little. Maybe this trend will continue?

My only advice for Biology is that if you don't like it, don't do it. If you do, you'll presumably be motivated enough to do the work.

I would second that advice. Picking biology is one of my biggest regrets of my Leaving Cert.

I'm Just finished TY and I picked mine as History, Economics, Music and Classical Studies. I'm doing History in a free class cos it collided with Economics....
Dreading music due to ther teacher, love the subject but she's useless...

Well, i loved all science for junior cert, especially biology

im fascinated with how life works and stuff?

and i guess im relatively smart, got 5 As and 5 Bs in junior cert (all higher level)

i was kinda worried for a bit that maybe i shoulda picked business instead of accountancy but now im happy with my choice :D

thanks all for help, any more advice is appreciated!

    *cough*I DID business*cough* hehe

Anyway, the only one of those subjects that I did was Chemistry which I hated... With a passion! Even though I loved it for JC, it's so different...

But I advise you to just go with what you like, same to everyone... By the way, I was at the Trinity open day listening to 4th year medicine student talk, and she said that the science she found most helpful with medicine was Physics... just so you know :) And Biology the least...

You're doing History as a free class? I can only hope that that doesn't backfire on you!

Yeah Biology isn't all throwing quadrats and looking at cells...that stuff is all there though. Watch out for genetics, the plant stuff and phtosynthesis...it's awful.

I agree with you about plants and photosynthesis (and respiration too...) but genetics? I always thought that was pretty straightforward.

Same, except for mendel's laws..ughh, but everybody I know who did biology hates genetics.

    Were starting genetics in september
what i hate so far is all that Plant Anatomy and Physiology
learning about plant reproduction and all their seeds, its so borin and I can't understand it at all

yet things like the cell and the digestive system and heart i find so easy

oh and theres a lot of experiments

I loved biology in the jc and all

Why is everyone up in arms over genetics? Its piss easy once you take time to learn the theory. Genetic crosses are very straightforward as well, though Section A of the 2007 paper would convince you otherwise

    Genetics is simple enough imo.

Ok I'm a veteran, did the LC in '99 but I'm interested particularly this year as my kid sister just sat it.

A word of warning RE history. This is prob one of the most time consuming subjects there is and you need serious guidance in it. I would never have taken it outside a class. I got an A1 in Honours so I know what I'm talking about. Alot of people who didn't expect to struggle did. The volume of material is immense.

Don't take it unless you truly love the subject coz you WILL end up hating it.

    Here here...

History is possibly one of the hardest, if not the hardest subject to do for the Leaving...it nearly killed me last year, and you most definetly need a teacher to help during the course with essays and the like. Dont take it on lightly, its a tough, stressful subject that needs a lot of work and study!

I couldnt disagree more, I think History is the easiest subject!
