As you can see from my signature, a part has been removed. It was:
Registration is open - www.pokerireland.ie - The MermaidPoker.com IPO takes place in the RDS, Ballsbridge, D4 on Saturday Oct 6th and in the Jackpot Casino Club, Dublin on Sunday Oct 7th. €150 Buy-in, Fully Dealer Dealt, 100% Prize-pool Payout. Get your name down now and help to us break records!
Is that sig allowed or was it removed correctly? Signatures like that are pretty common around the poker forum and have been used for a similar event before. They are just trying to help the poker scene in Ireland etc. I also thought it was mentioned that one ad was allowed.
Cheers, also, that messed up stuff under my name needs seeing to. :-)

Looks fine to me Tar. Dev has a sticky in poker about advertising events in the sig. AFAIK, once it's only one advert and it doesn't contravene sig rules then it's fine.

    Edit/

You can have one link and it must contain the text of the link its going to bring you to. For example: if you link is going to bring the user to www.irishpokermadhouse.com then the text must be that URL. It may not be "Click here for the biggest freeroll ever!!"
Nor can it be "CLICK HERE FOR RAKEBACK!!!"

If you want to advertise a commerical venture, our banner ads can be targetted at the poker forum specifically. They are very reasonable. If you arent willing to support us, I dont see why we should support you.

Did you find out why it was removed Tar?

From sig rules: You're sig should NOT be a giant advertisment for anything. We'll just cut it.

I don't see a problem advertising for an event. If you were advertising for a paysite, a product or a company, that's a different matter.

Nah, it might have been that they just thought that it was not allowed.

I would have thought the operative word there was "giant". You omitted the rest of that sentence, which reads "A subtle link to something you run online if fine. Use commonsense."

What makes a for-profit event any different than a for-profit product or service?

If a sig contravenes the rules in other ways (too large, too many images etc.) then it should be dealt with accordingly, but the definition of "advertisement" is too loose to be applied in sig rules, in my opinion.

Does it count as advertising a product or company if it's a blog or site with google ads on it?
Does it count as an advertisement if the content is referencing something that the poster supports/likes but does not own or have a stake in?
Does it count as an advertisement if the link is to a portfolio site?

If you're not allowed to advertise a site that offers a product or service maybe someone should crack down on those who have company-based usernames, like the reps here from Blacknight, Komplett and Rabobank.

(this isn't just directed at biko, but anyone who can answer)

Yep, I would support a ban/crackdown on blatant advertising.

Giving people details of a job or a bit of work that's going isn't a bad thing, if it's honest and straightforward. Blatant advertising would encompass agencies spamming job adverts everywhere and similar kinds of thing imho.
