For me, the great thing about Sligo is they way you can go outside and within a short time you can be walking a beach, climbing a mountain, wandering through forest, out on a lake, trekking the hills or visiting a megalithic site [Insert more here]. I know what your thinking, everywhere has that. But for everything above you can name numerous sites and locations to do them all in Sligo and all within short driving time of each other. Now I know, I supposed to by selling Sligo here, but it's also a fantastic base for day visits to Mayo, Leitrim or Donegal as well.

I haven't named anything specific here but
    http://www.sligotourism.ie/
seems to have a little bit on everything.

    Enjoy.
Highly recommend heading up Carrowkeel for a look, it's amazing what you can see up there.

I like the fact that we have the best of both worlds here. Stunning beaches and wonderful mountains.
We could do with a better laid out town and there are still some key shops missing but Sligo is getting better.

Its association with Yeats gives it a mystical and romantic edge above the rest, the likes of Lissadel, Drumcliffe, and Lough Gill....
And then theres Benbulbin. Who needs to go to see Table mountain when you have Benbulbin? Believe me you don't:)

    Lets see...

Walking the dog at Culleenamore or Kellystown.
Or else walking him at Union, Rathcarrick, Slíos or Dooney wood.

The View of Strandhill as I drive out there to work.

Fishing off Dooney Rock and catchin a nice Pike.

    But that's just me:D

Now there are literally a dozen beaches within 30 minutes of the centre of Sligo.

Same could be said about the woods.

You've got Knocknera and Benbulban mountains.
    Carramore Megalithic tombs.
    The Four Lights
Possibly the best surfing in Ireland
    Decent shopping (Work in progress)
Great Golf courses including one of the worlds top Lynx courses.
One of the best nightclubs in Ireland and some pretty good pubs!

Can't think of anything else at the moment but needless to say there is plenty to keep one occupied in Sligo.:)

Well here's a few for starters

    The scenery
    The beaches
    The culture and history- Yeats
    The friendlyness
The retail outlets- good mix of small boutiques / shops and chain stores)
Good restaurants- Bistros, Davis's, Fiddlers, pizzerias and the fast food joints- 4 Lites!
    Good pubs

It is nice I agree, I mentioned it before on the old forum but DL's and Galweigans disagreed. Who cares what they think anyway?
