laptop black screen after booting up

    Does anyone know that when booting up my laptop, after the Windows Xp sign

    comes up the screen goes completely black on the screen.

    The weird thing is sound can still be heard.

    Sounds more like a driver problem.

    Boot into safe mode and see if you can see anything.

    how exactly do you clean up a driver problem

    I forgot to mention that the computer boots up perfecct when it's put into safe mode

    Two options - download the latest driver, or go into system properties and roll back the driver to an earlier (and presumably working) version.

    Might be an invaluid resolution set.
    Instead of safe mode, boot into vga mode and just set the resolution to something else, or if you know what its supposed to be then set it to that.

    just to update

    Booting into vga mode does not work.

    Is there a way of knowing which driver is causing the problem

    I'm gonna take a stab in the dark here and suggest the graphics card driver. :D

    I rolled back the graphics driver and if works perfectly now.

    I owe you big time :):)
