gfx: why not just get a gtx? or if you wait a while the 89** series is meant to be out soon.. apparently..

If you can afford it, e6400, 88000gts 640mb and a abit fp-in9 nforce 650i mobo.

Where can I get a e6400 ? That's what I was after originally. Komplett don't seem to stock them and I can't remember any other sellers. Ill check OCuk but don't generally like them.

This motherboard any good ? Looks decent: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=331973

But wouldnt the 2900XT be the far better card? They're around the same price..

    2900XT has 512-bit Memory Bus
    105GB/s Memory bandwidth
    320 Vertex Shaders
    320 Pixel Shader Engines

    8800GTS has 320-bit Memory Bus
    64GB/s Memory bandwidth
    128 vertex Shaders
    128 Pixel Shader Engines

Wouldn't the 2900XT be the logical choice?

I'm also thinking do I really need all the graphics power right now, i want to jump on the DX10 bandwagon now but how do the 8600 range hold up in performance. Would i expect alot more compared to an AGP X800XL & A64 3200+ ?

    EDIT:

OCuk have the E6420 - If its that different from the 6400 ? Is it really worth the extra 40ish Euro ?

    E6230:
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6320 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Dual Core Technology, 1.86GHz clock speed, 4MB L2 Cache, Intel Speedstep Technology, EM64T 64-Bit Technology, Execute Disable Bit. 3yr Warranty.

    E6420:
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.13GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Dual Core Technology, 2.13GHz clock speed, 4MB L2 Cache, Intel Speedstep Technology, EM64T 64-Bit Technology, Execute Disable Bit. 3yr Warranty.

Sounds good alright. Any more feedback for the 8800GTS to make sure i'm not making a big mistake going for the 2900??

Is there any other ATi card on the way beyond the R600 ??

I think I'll go with the E6320 from komplett at 140euro. Trying to stick with komplett, Always used em' for years.

That's the debate at the moment, but you can't really draw anything from the amount of shaders each card has because they're totally different archs. Looking to the future the 2900 might be the better choice, it *may* do DX10 better. An Abit IP35 or a Gigabyte P35 DS3R would be a better choice for a board, 650i is a pretty bad chipset.

I'll check out them boards so. Reading over a few threads that aBit IP35 seems to be a fairly decent board.

So far, I really think I'm leaning towards the 2900XT.

Yep, but according to the website, that's per order, so should be regardless of how many components, or how heavy it is. That makes it far better value than a lot of places, especially given the rest of the prices beat most from Dabs, Komplett etc

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭papu

well i payed 40 euro for 1500 worth of equip :D

Over the last year or so I appear to have lost track of whats what when it comes to hardware! Looking for some advice, vista's slow for me on my Skt. 939 system & X800XT.

I guess I'm looking for some form of hot system.

I'm just looking for the RAM, CPU, Motherboard and video card.

Just looking for 2GB of DDR2 I'm guessing this is the stuff that'll do the job for either a 775 C2D or a Am2 X2 System.

    RAM: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=331914
    or http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=320721

    CPU
    I'm stuck deciding whether to get a 775 C2D or a Am2 X2+. I want what will last!
    X2 6000+http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=331906

    or

    E6320http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=334150

    Motherboard
If I was going with the 775 I'm open to motherboard suggestions

If going with Am2 I'd probably like an MSI board.

    Open to suggestions!

    Video card

    8800GTS 320MB: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=333960

    or

    2900XT 512MB: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=335740

Again im open to suggestions with these, I dont know what to go for! I don't really wanna spend more then 380 on a Video card.

Suggestions please! I'm dieing to get this system up and going!!

    Hj

If you wish to part with the Socket 939 bits could I have first dibs?
    :)
