I got two new tyres for the car today. The fitter was SIMI registered. Delighted to see them record the mileage of the car after all the latest clocking threads. Didn't know they did this. Can the average Joe soap get this information from them?

It may be to protect themselves - in case you come back after '16,000 KMs' with your tyres worn out. They can then dispute your claim.

Or it may be for an internal SIMI database. In which case, average Joe would have to know a member to get the info.

In the past i've found the SIMI to be pretty useless....

I could not get a list of SIMI garages off their web site, tried lots of times... so i said i'll email them, still waiting on a response... tried emailing them on a few other address, still no response... gave up on them after that...

The SIMI is nothing more than a talking shop for vested interests in the motor industry, in particular the main dealerships. It has absolutely nothing to offer independent garages or businesses in the industry that are non-franchised...
