Bull****. There have been plenty of mixed answers.

The two girls I know don't seem to pull and I, along with other friends, have wondered whether this was because they weren't all girlie and silly. Same for myself in the past.
It's so typical of so many Boards users to make assumptions - I must be really serious and constantly trying to be intellectual. ARSE!!! Guys tell me they can't believe how easygoing I am about bawdiness, when other girls would be like "ooh, that's disgusting".
I mustn't be attractive - I don't have the Jessica Simpson look but I've been told that I look like Michelle Ryan (Zoe from Eastenders). Personally, while I'm delighted with such a comparison:), I don't think I actually look like her. However I do have similar hair, complexion and eye make-up style.

So I know it's easy and understandable to make assumptions about a person based on their Boards postings but try not to - some of you are WAY off.

Voting for the first option here is essentially the pretentious dismissal of what is likely the majority of modern young people - image obsessed, materialistic, unopinionated etc.

Thing is, the likelyhood is that girl 1 won't be all that different to girl 2 if one were to analyse the situation properly.

I mean there's a lot more to having a "great taste in music, film, literature, art etc." than simply rejecting the conventional mainstream trends. The likelyhood is that someone who considers themselves an "intellectual" just adheres to what is popular amongst their subculture. It's not so much thinking for themselves as deciding they would like to adhere to an alternative stereotype.

Along the same lines, you'd wonder just how unique and interesting girl 1's opinions on politics and history would really be.

Also, as part of this "intellectual" subculture, girl 1 would probably have some kind of resentment towards "blonde bimbos" and would strive not to look anything like them. Perhaps her peers would consider her to have a unique sense of style, but unless she makes her own clothes or something, she's probably only dressing in slightly less popular items of clothing than these sort of girls.

She probably wouldn't wear very exposing clothes on a night out because she presumably would believe that that would make her a slut. Ironically, this could be considered regressional and pseudo-intellectual, as the mentality that girls who dress a certain way are sluts is an old fashioned attitude. Indeed, it's just a convention that "intellectual" girls don't dress like sluts.


All either is doing is adhering to a certain stereotype. Same thing basically. Now I accept that you haven't described girl 1 fully enough for me to simply lump her in with an alternative herd of sheep, she could actually be my dream girl.

What I can conclude, however, is that if she wasn't like how I've described above, then she wouldn't have posted this topic in AH.

Well, the answer to this really depends on the bloke in question. Personally I have found that when talking to a girl, she tends to get less attractive if she has nothing to say for herself or isn't particularly friendly/chatty, and I know really good looking girls I wouldn't touch cause I know they are dumb or shallow. I also find the opposite is true aswell. On the other hand I have friends whose opinion of somebody is based mostly on their looks and that opinion isn't changed much by their personality.

So I suppose in answer to your question, I would go fir the girl I would be happy spending time with (number 1).

Dudess the issue is that we don't fancy people in the same way we pick our friends. So perhaps your friends are also to blame. Maybe they are attracted to vacuous metrosexual guys and shouldn't get annoyed when those guys fancy dumb bimbos.

The more you try and explain exactly what the differences between the two are, the more similar they both seem.

And whether they are really that different personalitywise isn't going to be all that clear from a conversation in a noisy pub/club in the first place - unless you're going to be superficial yourself and assume that a hot blonde in revealing clothing = an idiot.

Much as I would like to say I would do otherwise this is probably the corect answer to this question. The thing is that you know that girl number 1 is probably not gonna put out on the first night (and you would probably prefer she didnt because she seems like the type of person you could build something with) all hot blonde has is her looks and to keep you interested she will probably do all kinds of kinky wit ya on the first night. Seeing as it's kinda similar, here's what I posted in the "Intelligence" thread:

I'd rate "intelligence" in a partner as someone who knows her own mind, has an opinion on something beyond Big Brother and celeb crap, and who can hold a decent conversation.

At the same time though it's equally important that they can be fun and spontaneous and just go with the flow sometimes.

So based on that then, I suppose a mixture of girl 1 and 2 in the original example.

I don'k that's it.. I think the problem is the original description is in fact a stereotype itself, ie: girl 1 is somewhat quiet (dare I say boring?) and reserved, whereas girl 2 is more of a fun easy-going "whatever" type.

While there are indeed both types out there, I think most women are a mix of the two. It's finding the RIGHT mix that's desireable.

Is it an actual nightclub situation you're asking us to judge or is it merely asking us to choose between two hypothetical girls, and if the latter, in what context? For a relationship? For a one night stand?

Also, there is a problem with your definition of girl 1 as it is both vague and concrete at the same time. Is she supposed to be our dream girl or just a girl who just seems to reject conventions? For example, I presume when you say that she has "great taste in music, film, literature, art etc." that her taste would simply correlate with ours, which would make her our dream girl in that respect, however, you seem to make a point in saying that she doesn't expose much skin, which seems to be a rather concrete attribute of this woman. Also, when you speak of her attractiveness it's hard to know how we're supposed to classify her. You're saying she can be attractive to you but can't be conventionally attractive, which is a paradox for anyone attracted to conventionally attractive girls.

If your question can be simplified to "Would you choose a hot blonde over your dream girl who's only slightly less attractive than the blonde?", the dream girl is going to win every time, obviously, but I think that you meant it to be a little less obvious a choice than that, perhaps, "Would you choose a hot blonde over a girl who is well educated, has a music/film/literature/art taste that deviates from the norm, has a good knowledge of history, current affairs and politics yet is considerably less attractive than the blonde, despite not being ugly?" - in that case, you'd get quite a few going for the blonde, with answers differing in some cases depending on whether you're talking about a one night stand or a relationship.

Yeah I know there are all sorts of details and logistics to consider but the situation as it stands does contain elements that most of us recognise and can relate to, and that was all I felt was necessary.

Why would you assume we want her to be the filth? There is room in this world for Girl A and Girl B and they both have their strengths and weaknesses. Depending on mood you would choose one and in a nightclub type situation with a few beers in me I would be in no mood to wax intellectual and would defo be straight on the to Girl B who is more interested in grinding on my leg.
