    Hi kids,
I might be moving to Limerick in the coming weeks with my work and I'm looking on recommendations for areas to live in and around Limerick. I'm going to working outside the Killaloe / Ballina area and hopefully I'll be driving by then so anywhere on that side of Limerick would best suite.

    Cheers

You will be strung up for suggesting that Killaloe and Ballina are in Limerick. Clare and Tipp people (respectively) are very particular about this.
    Anyhow, welcome to the area.
If you are looking to live and socialise in Limerick then i suggest you live in Corbally. You are on the road to Killaloe while avoiding any traffic associated with going into the city and you are only a short drive from the city. You are even with walking distance if you stay on the Limerick side of the bridge.
Killaloe and Ballina are fairly built up areas with alot of pubs, restaurants around so you could even stay local to work.

I'd suggest either Corbally or Annacotty, both close enough to Killaloe but on other sides of city from each other.

Annacotty, Castletroy and Castleconnell are all fairly close as is Corbally which has the added benefit of being walking distance from the city centre. Made the move myself several years back and its home now. Only don't mention crime/media/taking their image too seriously to the locals, they're a little touchy;)

Tis a good stretch of the legs from castletroy to town now in fairness.

Have you considered the option of living in Killaloe or balina.

Well im sure castletroy would have the widest choice

Annacotty, Castletroy, Castleconnel, Corbally, Shannon Banks or Westbury are all relatively easy to commute to Killaloo/Balina.

It depends altogether on what hours you'll be working and how much you're willing to spend on accomodation. If you're renting Castletroy should be avoided in the main unless you're hard of hearing come september when students make their nightly pilgramage to the Lodge!!

Corbally is probably best. Even Parteen, Clonlara, Ardnacrusha might work for you traffic wise

Thanks for all the suggesions lads.

Crea, I didn't meant to say that Ballina / Kilaloe is in Limerick, just that I was moving to Limerick and was going to be working in that location.

Castletroy looks like the front runner so far anyway.

as a resident of Limerick i would deffinately pick castletroy, its gotten very built up in the past few years, many retail parks and shopping centers and with a population of over 25,000 it will feel like a town of its own as your a few miles away from the city, definately castletroy area would be a good spot to pick!

Was coincidentally speaking with a girl here in work this morning re. Ballina/Killaloe where she has lived for the past year or so. Lakeside living, nice pubs and restaurants & the many other positives locally would suggest that maybe you should reverse yer thinking and live outside of Limerick City [Only my opinion here]...... Property prices have become reasonable recently with some value for money dev.s going up.

I like my City comforts. Grew up outside Cork City, lived in Wateford City for 6 years and currently living near Dublin City. Wouldn't be able to hack country living at this stage in my life.

I have looked around at the Castletroy spots and the prices are very reasonable. If I were to take on a 4 bedroom house myself, would I find it difficult to let out the other 3 rooms? What's the demand like on rentals in and around Limerick?

I'm from Limerick so I don't mind if you want to give Ballina and Killaloe to us but your workmates might take a dimmer view :p
It will be easy enought to get people to share in Castletroy cause that's where most of the UL students stay. There are also apartments to rent in the area if you don't want to share.
If you don't want to live in an area that will be full of students in September then Castletroy should be avoided.

Just a word on Castletroy. It's a very big area and not all of it is student living. If you don't want to live in a student estate there are plenty of areas in castletroy that are residential. Of course that limits your ability to rent out rooms but I guess it depends on your priorities.
