Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

IP Address Conflict

    I'm having an issue since setting up my Wireless Router & Repeater. Windows keeps informing me that there is an IP Address confliction - but it doesn't say what or where.

    I think I may know the problem, but I wanted to make sure before I go taking down the network.

    The router (Linksys) is assigned the IP 192.168.2.1 while the broadband modem is 196.168.1.1. Cant recall the IP from the repeater, but its not the same as those two - but it could be 192.168.3.1 (not 100% sure).

    Anyway, it dawned on me that I have DHCP enabled on both the Router & the Modem which I believe would be wrong. However, im not to sure which devise it should be disabled on. Can anyone shed some light? Not a network expert myself - only know pretty basic level compared to some of the other lads that I work with!

    Hi, I'd let your router do the work and disable DHCP on your modem. I've got a similar setup at home: I've a Cisco DSL router off of which is hanging my Netopia wireless modem- it's just a wireless access point now. The Cisco doles out IP addresses and DHCP on the Netopia is now off.

    As you've already highlighted, there should only be one DHCP server.

    Also, do you still get the same error if all devices are in the same subnet, e.g.
    • Linksys router: 192.168.1.1
    • Modem: 192.168.1.2
    • Repeater: 192.168.1.3
    • PC: 192.168.1.4 or assigned by DHCP

    I just set the IPs (as listed) on recommendation from Linksys.

    When I turned of DHCP on the Modem, when the internet cut of (which happens) it took ages before I got my connection back. I wasnt able to get into the control panel. I had to set it up and re-enabled DHCP.

    Error hasnt appeared today. Seems to be random

    Is your wireless secured? Could be someone else accessing your network with the same IP address as one of your devices.

    You need to make sure that your DHCP server starts giving out IP address that are well above any IP address that you are using for your routing equipment.

    I've my DHCP server starting to give out addresses at 192.168.1.10 (I've known people to start at 192.168.1.100) which means that the first machine that requests an IP address from the router gets the IP 10, followed by 11, 12 etc

    If your DHCP is set by default to start at 192.168.1.1 the machine that is given that IP will flag that it is in conflict with something else (in this case the broadband modem.

    Also all your equipment seem to be on different subnets. Not sure why you would want this, its going to make it difficult for each piece of equipment to see each other.

    I would recommend ethernet's suggestion, and putting all the equipment on the same subnet.
