Im planning a first time ever cycle tour through france into spain this september and need to purchase a reasonable machine.. maybe it's just me but i can't seem to find many retailers in ireland geared to touring. An expensive cannondale at €1600 in cycleways being the only obvious option on the internet..

I would like advice on whether i would be better ging for something more affordable such as Dawes Galaxy??...or is the extra for cannondale worth it??

Where in ireland can i find more reasonable options?? or should i just order in from the UK??

I'm 6'1" and 14.5 st.. what inch frame do i need for tourer??

    Any extra advice welcome!!

    Thanks
    Craft

PS. travelling is my thing so im pretty sure im going to put whatever bike i get to good use.

    Hi

There's plenty of choice if you're prepared to consider online offers from bike stores in the UK. Evans have a good range of Dawes starting a 450stg for the Dawes Horizon, a lesser model than the Galaxy, which costs 800stg.

You could consider Thorn. They specialise in handbuilt touring bikes and either their Sherpa 26" wheeled tourer or Club Tour 700c wheeled tourer would probably suit.

I would stick to steel frames rather than aluminum, because they're more comfortable and can be repaired much more easily than alu.

i considered buying a tourer to go through france + italy, the cannondale at 1600eur. but i got a second hand racer instead and then had a panier rack fitted.

i knew that i'd be training with the racer a lot, so it was better for me to get a versatile bike rather than something so specific. i use my racer everyday as opposed to using a tourer maybe once a year.

there is also a speciliazed model, the tricross. cycleways have it.
