    Hey was just wonderin on peoples thoughts whether theyd go for an q6600 or an e6580.Im undecided at the moment. Higher clock speeds vs suposed future proof eg crysis. Multitasking or gaming? Cheers guys

    Your guess is as good as anyone elses :-)

    All depends how quickly software support arrives.

    Personally would go for the quad, future proof in the event that mulitcore games really take off. (and if you do a bit of encoding on the side and have the software to take advantage of a quad.)

    I don't think the speed difference between the two chips will matter much for the vast majority of games: most games seem to be bottlenecked by the gfx card as opposed to the CPU a lot of the time.

    A flight sim or a straegy game that really relies on raw clockspeed: then the faster dual core would be a better option.

    TBH, go with the option you feel more comfortable with, it is all the one for the moment, either chip will give you good performance in games.:D

    If you have no plans for overclocking & this is mainly for gaming go with the e6580 as the quad core will be sitting idle the majority of the time unless you have other apps in mind that are multi-threaded.
