Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

Ok - lot's of dumb questions to follow ... be kind!

    I have a motorola v600 - no infrared - just bluetooth.

I can setup a bluetooth connection and connect to Eircom dial up ok - but 9k data rate is a joke.

So question is can I use GPRS?
How do I set this up ... both on the phone and connect via laptop ... and I mean step by step?

    Will this be significantly faster.

Just need internet access for short amount of time ... but at a half decent rate.

    Hope someone can help.

    Thanks

9K data traffic is not because of the eircom line, its because of your Bluetooth device. Throw it away! you can you GPRS with your laptop,- yes.

How much it will cost you? think! It will not be faster that ordinary dial up, so my personal advise do not bother to use GPRS, if you don't wish to receive a huge bill. Unless you will sign up with your mobile phone company for a GPRS access, they suppose to have some deals for a limit amount of traffic, like 2MB or 8MB for a fixed fee.

Also GPRS service great only with a small data exchange, something like chat or email but not a web sites that have huge and fancy graphics, first it will take you for ages to open it, second don't forget you will be charged per KB as a pay as you go GPRS user.

Get a simple dial up modem and connect to your eircom land line 1892 150 150 , no need in user name or password and here you go. Eircom promised standard speed is 28K on a PSTN line, if its lower than that its could be a bad modem or a faulty line. Do not worry Eircom obliged to provide 28k speed, so report it to them and they will send an technician to check your line.
