Probably the wrong area but I'm also looking for Advice! :)

I'm a Student whom has developed a love of classic cars, really caught the bug! :o

I'm currently looking for my first classics, looking for cars which are over 20years old (over 30 is prefered) either to fully restore or to maintain meticulously.

A car to restore would allow me to learn about the mechanics and techniques employed, and would suit me down to the ground. I've previously partly-restored an old camry, I know of the time and money involved, and now looking to learn further, especially about engines and drive systems!

A good example of a classic would also be great as I can smarten her up and either use her as a runner or to preserve as a cherished possesion.

Idealy I'd like to have both a project car, nice runner, and show piece.

PM me or reply please, either about your car or someone elses you know of, I will PM my email to whomever is interested.

Please give your opinions anyway as I'm always looking for friendly advice!

    Thanks
    Clif

    hows things
firstly this post is proberbly best suited in the classic car section ;) but car enthusiast to car enthusiast i think the best place to look is a magazine called practical classics, its sold on tesco and easons. it will give you good options on what to choose, i myself i really like future classics or cars that "i" think will be like the EF honda civic mark my words in a few years............................. (flame on we`ll see ;) )

personally i think a car like the civic has plenty of parts are handy to work on and best of all the amount of support out there is amazing, i think it would be a great starting point

Just my 2cents but im honda biased

The cars I would choose would be:
    Totota Levin/Corolla ae86
    mk1 or mk11 Escort.
Both have a cult status, espcially true for the twin cams, and are great fun to drive. Easy to work on not a whole lot of electrics ,plenty of parts available but are getting increacingly more expensive to buy. You could learn a lot from workin on these and there are lots of shows to bring a nicely restored classic to. Best of luck wit it,

great choices NicOda! you hit the nail on the head with the ae86 (and with the escort im affraid) people are asking mad money for them (damn you to hell initail d!!) but again GREAT cars both to work on and drive.

You need to find something rest havent quite copped onto yet if you dont want to spend too much

    Cheers:D
first car i ever had was a minter of a cam, red over black. Bought if from an old lady in Meath for not a whole lot compared with wat a decent Irish car will set you back today. In the Uk they are as rare as Rockinghorse sh1t cause all the Irish boys copped onto their potential. If you look hard and are not scared of putting in long hours and getting totally addicted there are cars to be got

    Hey Thanks lads

    @ OKenora

I'm aware this post is biased towards Classics, but it's a question about cars and I'd like it exposed to our diverse range of motoring enthusiasts! The way that the replies have gone is really interesting.

and thanks for suggesting your 928, I've seen it on Carzone, but decided before it's not for me.

    @ Every1 else

Nice choices, I've been really interested in future classics, and a few are real good choices.

I'd love to see some of these with low insurance

Dunno if theres a post about it, but I'll start one about future powerhouse classics :D I've got some beauties in mind.

Anyhow, For the last few years I've been eyeing the CorradoStorm..... then the prices jumped..... and now I'm sad. The last one I saw was over a year ago now and at 10k....

oh well, ****s and giggles eh :p

    Keep them coming guys!
and fire a few other cars my way ;)
