Right here's the deal, I've recently noticed alot of spam and it's always in the mythology forum! Is it just me?

What's the deal, do spammers get off on offering phones to fans of Mercury? Are those interested on Basthet more likely to need viagra? Or is it just always the last forum the spam is deleted from?

Do you report them as you see them? They should get zapped then.

Yeah, I have noticed that alright.

Majority of my sitebans have gone to the spammers that hit Mythology. They are normally taken care of fairly quickly. Why spambots are attracted to there, I do not know. :)

Indeed I do, just wondering about the bizarreness of targeting Mythology...

There is an unreal number of reported posts in Mythology. It must have been unfortunate enough to get on the radar of some spam bot's list.

I wonder if it would be possible/feasible to set it up as a new forum while retaining all its posts, permissions etc? Change its forum number, i.e. the xxx part in the viewforum?f=xxx part of the url.

Any vbulletin boffin care to share their expertise?

You should see what it looks like if you have rights to see deleted posts there.

It isn't completely without value to have the bots concentrating on one spot.

Might be an idea to change it to a new forum number and leave the old forum number to take the spam and not be listed on the forum list.

The Digital Art & Design board was a popular target for a while there... looks like they've moved.

I think its something to do with fora within the arts section - i.e. forum number 1 .

Pain in the ass though, I mod it and all I get to do is delete crap half the time (and get my inbox filled up with all the spam)

Mythology really does seem to get the brunt of it.

Any chance that the link is stored in some spam database? Perhaps we could make it a form of invisible forum - it doesn't appear for any users, but anyone who attempts to post there gets banned automatically?

I always wondered about this too. I've lost count of the amount of mythology spam posts I've reported.

clown bag, BTW, thanks for that. While all the SMods (as well as the moderators of that actual forum of course) are aware that mythology is worth a regular look-in, sensible reported posts is always appreciated (not always at the time, at the time we often think "oh ffs, what now?" but that people report them, we appreciate).
