Not everyone's cup of tea, but I really, really like Stalker. With the shinies turned up, it looks pretty damn fine.

crysis is out soon that will definitely show off the power of a new PC! and you never know might actually be a good game too :)

FEAR, scary single player, good multiplayer.

Battlefield 2 is old but still good, with everything maxed out looks v pretty.

Old but Farcry is an amazing FPS, single players great and still looks impressive. Online any of the battlefield series, they can be overwhelming at the start but once you get halfway decent they're fantastic.

Seconded. Fantastic atmosphere, story and overall presentation definitely a great way to break in your new PC.

    Gun

Ah, Call Of Juarez, how could I forget it? Very pretty, and a damned entertaining game to boot. If you like westerns, you need that game.

Bit crap once you get bored of constantly doing the slow mo gun draw.

If it doesnt have to be new then SWAT 4 - great game for tactics
    Otherwise
    STALKER
    Rainbow Six Vegas
    FEAR
    Deus Ex

Oldies and newbies all goodies :p

recently palyed FEAR and have to say i thought it was pretty bloody poor. It looks like arse, and its not scary in the slightest. Id avoid it, tbh.

    Personally, id recommend

    Prey
    HL2
STALKER (again, its a marmite game but enjoyable)
    Day of defeat sauce

Cheers for the suggestions lads. Ordered HL2 on ebay (£2.50, not bad!) and went with Quake 4 for now, mostly because it was in the 2 for €25 section in Game. FEAR was there too but I've had it on the 360 before and didn't think much of it.

I'll be on the look out for Far Cry and otherwise just wait around for Crysis and Bioshock

Call me Juarez. A Western shooter! Cheap (€10.00 in Game), and fun.

Bioshock is out at the end of the month, I think that'll be the one to go for (both graphics and gameplay wise). Can't wait.

    nipplenuts, Call Of Juarez? :)

Maybe he's texting in his reply. "Of" and "me" are always getting mixed up with stupid predictive text ;)

I must say that I agree with you on F.E.A.R. not in the least scary and quite poor.
If you want scary - try 'The Suffering' best played in the dark!

what games have you played? what are your new system specs?

Here is my list of FPS to try out in order of excellence imo:

    HL2
    Farcry
    GRAW
    GRAW2
    Call of Juarez
    Star Wars: Republic Commando
    HL2: Episode 1
    Sin Episodes
FEAR: Extraction point (worth buying FEAR just to get this expansion pack)
    FEAR
    Quake 4
    Doom 3
    Prey
    Dark Messiah
    Halo 2
Call of Duty series (4 is out soon)
STALKER (lost interest a few hours in, but going to give it another shot)
    Shadowrun

btw, these are just a list of the ones i've played and that i'd recommend.

In the next few months keep an eye out for:
    Crysis
    HL2: Episode 2
    Farcry 2
    UT III
F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate (2nd expansion pack)
Project Offset (personally the one i'm really anticipating)

Yeah I never got spooked playing F.E.A.R now Doom3 had plenty of scary moments. I'll never forget that spider moment!!!

personally i think the medal of honour and call of duty series are untouchable,
not really into killing aliens, rather be liberating europe all over again,
i always go back to these games and play them again and again (except moh pacific assault which wasnt great)

Ive played all 3 project zero games...now THEY are terrifying ass games. FEAR was like a weak ass rip off of the ring or something. Little asian girls = cute, not scary.

Oh yea, she was super cute as she ripped Special Forces teams apart while walking on the ceiling. :)

I've been playing stalker the last few days, its been pretty good, love the open enviroments. Can be a bit tough though, even on second easiest setting.

Would add Condemned : origins of crime.

More of a first person basher than shooter, but very atmospheric and one of the first games in ages to make me jump up out of my seat swearing blind :D.

A snip at 15 Euro in Gamestop......
