Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

I'm trying to reformat my hard drive and re-install windows, when i try to i get this message:

"Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of the drive. Then try formating again"

I have some processes running but no other programs

If i try formatting through command prompt I get similiar error messages which it then prompts me to dismount the processes or something but then it can't.

I want to do this now and its wrecking my head. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

you cannot format your windows partition whilst still in windows.

what you need to do is...

    1. back up everything you need
    2. restart computer and go into BIOS (usually hit delete or F2)
    3. find the option to boot from CD-ROM
    4. insert Win XP cd.
    5. follow the instructions

Get a new CD-ROM drive, they should be about €20-€30 max in any computer shop

If the CD rom is broken not good news, you are likely to be painted into a corner. NT4 needed 3 floppies to boot the setup program, Xp needs something stupid like 5 or 6 - not an option if you have ANY alternative (including a dos boot disk with Interlnk on parallel cable to pull the i386 folder to a fat 16 partition)

If you have a USB key you can make it bootable if your BIOS supports it.

You would need a second partition or hard drive for the windows install files won't you or how were you planning on getting them ?

Having a swap file on a driver will prevent windows formatting it
