Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I see Parry hinted a couple of days ago that our buying might not be finished yet. Some of the press are linking us with Baines, while others think it might be Robben. Who do you think will come in, if anyone?

Heinze maybe if the deal can be worked out.

    Otherwise - no idea.

Robben not a chance. There's no way he'll go to a premiership club, if he even goes.

I agree but the question was who do think will come in.

    Could be that Juve defender?

Maybe but didn't he say yesterday that he wanted to join City. Maybe we showed no interest?

    Heinze and Rooney

I don't think he meant a defender. As everyone knows Liverpool want to buy another LB/CB. I think we might be looking at a winger. As for who, I haven't the foggiest. Maybe Dani Alves?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

I really can't see who is still availible on the market, all the wingers seemed to have moved.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

rumoured in some rag, we're going to tip 50m with a new purchase.

I think it's got to be a defender.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

Can't see Dani Alves coming, wouldn't be mad keen on it either.

Think he'll be at Sevilla for the next couple of years at least.

Would be happy if we got Leighton Baines and some cover for CB

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,746 ✭✭✭Drag00n79

I'd be happy enough with Baines coming myself. I see from this Four Four Two interview he's a fan too! No wonder he's stalling with the blues :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

Leighton Baines might be going to Merseyside, but not the red half ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

at least we know which half he'd choose if he had the choice

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,326 ✭✭✭Zapp Brannigan

Yeah I wouldnt be too keen on Alves myself, it's just he's the only real winger I can think of that would be available.

There's not even that many defenders available. Baines is okay, but I don't think he's LFC standard.

wel considering roy keane said he is holding out for everton, id say its them

personally, i dunno what to make of that article, was written a few years ago and ive seen some of those 'boys a bit special' to be shíte before

but to the point in hand. I dont think they will get anyone, unless heinze

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

I think he probably was holding out for Everton but its only in the last few days with all the question marks over Heinze that a possible move from Liverpool could be on the cards.

If you were him - a liverpool fan, and the most successful club in England came in for you.... surely it would be impossible to turn down?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,072 ✭✭✭✭event

the successful part has nothing to do with it. If he is a fan, then it doesnt matter how successful they are

but nice of you to throw it in there, like just in case someone doesnt know

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,080 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

id say it will just be a defender. we have too many players for the other positions, unless a bargain came on the market.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,399 ✭✭✭✭Thanx 4 The Fish

And bargains do not come along all that often. Is gary McAllister still playing ? He was a bargain ;)

Voronin could be a bargain yet too.

yup thats true..which is why i dont expect anymore signings. I meant more along the lines of quaresma or mancini giving a come and get me plea and putting in a transfer request or something. Theres no point is us buying just another player cause they're cheap, if we bring anyone in besides a defender, they should be to walk into the first team. We have plenty of squad depth now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,263 ✭✭✭yom 1

If we are looking at another left sided defender in case we dont get heinze i would much rather we signed someone like Nicky Shorey. And he is a bit of a deadball specialist too.

bargins are out there and available, except not to clubs like liverpool and man u because the price is automatically doubled once they get involved. i mean santa cruz to blackburn 2.5million/3 million??easily 6million + if we wanted him!! (i think he is a good sigining by the way)

Not really that great a scoring record though, something like 1 in 5.

    Everton bid for Baines rejected

Wigan boss Chris Hutchings has revealed that the club turned down a bid from Everton for defender Leighton Baines. Baines, 22, recently rejected Sunderland after Keane agreed a £6m deal with the Latics.

"We turned down a £4m-plus player bid from Everton - that's as far as it has gone," Hutchings told BBC Five Live.

"I'd like him to stay but I can't stop speculation and offers being made. It's bad business if we don't accept a bid similar to what Sunderland offered."

So then Sunderland turned down. Everton turned down. Draw your own conlcusions but I sniff a buy in the air.

    Mike.

no, i reckon everton will go back in for him

this chap could be in the england squad for next year if he is playing every week. he wont get that with liverpool

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

I don't think he'd be far off getting it for Liverpool. I'd play him ahead of anything we have there at the minute.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,095 ✭✭✭zing

David Maddock in the Mirror linked him to us today but not exactly a brilliant source (unless it's Fowler related).

i think it more along the lines of 5 a season but that was more down to injuries

He rejected Sunderland, his club rejected Everton

Read the other day that he was a boyhood Everton supporter and from that area, so Everton will probably get once they sell Beattie.

Wouldnt mind baines, but it'd mess up my fantasy football, cos if he signs, i'll have to get him rid, cos I have three Pools players already (finnan, gerrard, torres)

Sunderland manager Roy Keane's impression was that Baines, 22, rejected a move to Wearside because his wish is to return to his native Merseyside.

Keane said: "Football is a small world and you hear things through the grapevine.

"I just got the impression that Leighton had his heart set on a move to Everton. I don't blame him for that."

Keane added: "When I left Manchester United, it didn't matter which team came in for me, I was always going to go to Celtic.

"I met Leighton and he's a nice lad who I would have loved to have come here.

"But it didn't happen and we move on."

ah well doesnt stop papers etc making up stuff

    http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/31072007/58/premiership-everton-baines-bid-rejected.html

Definitely saw it in a paper or skysports/bbc site recently aswell saying he was an Everton fan but that fourfourtwo interview proves otherwise.

well if he's changed his mind and moved to the Blue side in those few years he's obviously not much of a loyal fan anyway! Besides id be tempted to trust something that has quotes of him saying he was a fan and used to watch Fowler from the KOP then something else from a 3rd party simply saying "baines, a boyhood everton fan".

The biggest factors in any pro's career choice move's have to be Ambition and Money, so I think whatever decision he makes those will be the driving factors behind it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,095 ✭✭✭zing

Folk over on RAWK say Baines was at goodison tonight which would suggest it's just a matter of time before the move happens.

Le Tallac on the way out for good, looks like to his loan side Sochaux.

    Diego Placente is 30! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diego_Placente

    hehe
ill post up the bit at the end before its deleted.
Reports on August 1st have said Liverpool FC are monitoring the situation and may make a move for the player.

He reportedly had sex with the Liverpool assistant manager Pako Ayestaran to guarentee first team football, although most Liverpool fans and staff are said to be livid that the club is even considering signing someone with a middle name such as Rodolfo.

:D Did'nt spot that! It may not even have been there when I clicked it.

Just edited it back. *shakes head at tossers*
