International Poker Open – Oct 6th/7th 2007

Hi all,

With the start of Autumn and all that I just wanted to post a new thread to remind everyone what this tournament is all about. And also to save anyone reading for the first time all the hassle of scrolling through lots and lots of posts.

The International Poker Open takes place in the RDS, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.
This no-limit texas hold’em freezeout will be fully dealer dealt and will be played over two days on Saturday Oct 6th (starting at 12pm) in the RDS, continuing through to day 2 in the Jackpot Casino Club, Montague Street, Dublin 2 on Sunday Oct 7th.

The buy-in is €125(+€25reg).
We are aiming to get 1,000 players in attendance making this the largest poker tournament ever to take place in Europe.

All players must register before Oct 1st on www.pokerireland.ie

The blind structure will be as follows;
Oct 6th:
12:00 1. 25-50
12:40 2. 50-100
13.20 3. 75-150
14:00 4. 100-200
14:40 5. 150-300
15:20 30 minute break – get rid of “25 chips” - chip race.
15:50 6. 200-400
16:30 7. 300-600
17:10 8. 400-800
17:50 9. 500-1000
18.30 60 minute break
19:30 10. 600-1200
20:10 11. 800-1500
20:50 12. 1000-2000
21:30 13. 1500-3000
22:10 30 minute break – get rid of “100 chips” – chip race.
22:40 14. 2000-4000
23:10 15. 3000-6000
23:50 20 min break
00:10 16. 4000-8000
00:50 17. 5000-10000
01:30…bag chips, secure chips, record chip counts and seat positions etc……

END DAY 1.

DAY 2 Sunday 7th Oct - 1 hour levels - Breaks to be decided on the day - (Prob ten minutes every two hours up to final table at which point we will take the final 9 players across the road to a great restuarant for a good feed and then get back to the action until we have a winner).

22:00 50000-100000 - Blinds might be frozen at this level.....We’ll see how its going on the night.

Mermaid are running a Welcoming Tournament for Irish Players Only.
It takes place on the 8th August at 8pm GMT and (subject to 50 players taking part) there will be almost $3,200 added to the prize-pool (1st and 2nd place will have the opportunity to travel to Copenhagen, stay in a hotel and play in a super sat for the DM Copenhagen - Denmarks Bestest Tournament with 150 players competing for a prize-pool of €577,000.

Buy-in $20 + $2 - NLH Freezeout, Wednesday 8th August.

ive said it to a few lads. about 20-30 donkeys. as soon as a few see four or five heading to the RDS for a 2 day event they'll all smell the opportunity of a massive p1ss up and follow suit.

680 x €125 =
if its 700 it will be 700 x €125 + Guarantee.

Hi Nicky, If there are exactly 700 players there will be a prize-pool of €100,000 with an overlay of €12,500

If there are 699 players on the day the prize-pool will be €87,375 (€125*699). With a standard prize-pool payout this will mean the winner taking home about €23,000.

If (and by 'if' I really mean 'when') we make the 1,000 players the winner stands to net about €32,000

Just want to answer a few concerns from the old thread.

If anyone is having any trouble whatsoever registering then I want to hear about it; stephen@pokerireland.ie

I can understand why some players might be critical of online registration but I am growing tired of answering really negative posts here on boards. A lot of posters really have no idea how much of our time (and both mine and Derek's time is quite valuable) is being used for this project.

I know that players don't want to hear about the problems of tournament organisers but I have a little bit of experience organising big poker tournaments so I just want to share something with everyone .

If we run this as an ordinary cash tournament security becomes a major concern and a major cost. Far more staff will be needed to register players and the tournament will start at least one hour late. Lots of dealers will be sent home without pay (as an organiser you normally have to book far more dealers than you might need - just in case - I'm sure all dealers that post here will remember the Citywest fiasco the first year I was involved with the Simon Charity fundraiser - this was BB [Before Boards] for me). Seating assignments will be all over the place. Players will not be guaranteed a fully transparent tournament as they are with online registration. Payouts will be a huge mess and again more staff will be needed for more hours. It is possible that the Gardai will not allow the tournament to go ahead as it is against the law to run a poker tournament with a cash value exceeding €10,000 outside of a casino club.

If it is taking you an extra few minutes to register for this tournament then I really am sorry but it will be worth it. It will save you and Poker Ireland an awful lot of hassle on the day and it will mean that a €30,000 payday could well be on the cards for the paltry buy-in of €125+€25 reg.

With online registration we can draw seats well in advance of the tournament and have them displayed on a big screen for player's convenience. This means that the tournament will start on time. We can ensure that all players are happy. We can run a really good team event which again will more than likely have added value. We can run a really good tournament and really put Irish and European poker on the map. We can keep player's costs as low as €25 for a massive tournament in an historic venue as central as the RDS. We can concentrate on a very hectic promotion campaign that will hopefully see us reach at least 1,000 players. We can relax a bit and enjoy the project that little bit more.

So please if this doesn't convince you that online registration is the way forward in terms of the future of poker tournaments don't post here. Take it up with me via email ( stephen@pokerireland.ie ) if you do want to play and if you don't want to play you are missing out on the best value (and biggest dead money fest) of your life so far.

The IPC run by pokerevents as far as i know they recd a special licence to do so, the Irish open was run by "the Merrion" and so the surrounding were different but it was as good as a casino.

Sorry yeah, I meant to say it is possible to apply for a licence but minimum cost is about 1k. The last time we took legal advice on this they weren't issuing any licences inside of the Pale due to the ongoing review in law concerning poker tournaments. Also lots and lots of poker tournaments are run in what I suppose is a grey area.

The Irish Open, as stated by GoodLuck2ME, is run by the Merrion Casino as is the EPT.

I'm sure you remember working at the Citywest with me and with about €1mil cash on the premises and absolutely no security......I'm not willing to risk having €100k of other people's cash on site with my name attached to it.

On more point about pre-registering for this tournament;
Anyone that has ever played in an EPT, IO or any other major event will know the importance of pre-registering and pre-paying for tickets. The EPT don't guarantee your seat until you are paid in full......With a tournament of this size (albeit with a much smaller buy-in) we need to make sure everyone is pre-paid either way. Registering online just makes things so much easier for all concerned

Thought this was a great support.

There are now two German players confirmed (verbally), one U.S. player (again verbally) and about 75 players travelling from the UK so far.......And lest I forget the gorgeous Mermaid girls......Plus; Now that I think of it there are one or two French players already too.

Guys please get in and register now as it will show players that are thinking of travelling to Dublin on Oct 6th that this really is going to be huge.

i think this is a very valid point. probably short notice but perhaps get onto a UK equivelant of budget travel or someone like that and get them to put a package together (i.e flights from stanstead, accomodation etc).

Yes. as soon as the velcome tourney are done we are putting up sats online at Mermaid. i asked in some posts what you prefere but didnit really get any answers so we diecided to run 1 time a week, maybe 2 times further on a tourney with buy in 20$ and see how many tickets that will generates....

We will also get sats up for Winterfestival in Waterford.

any other ideas please let me know.

things like that regarding the IPO i 100% guarantee you is not a problem. talk straight to me and i work it out, instant.

Besides as long as registration are open you can just unregister yourself if you win a satelite.

Just want to say a big thanks to all Boardsies that have registered so far.

With so many emails and words of support from players that are planning to play its really a great help that we have 31 players paid up in full exactly two months before the event.

Hey,

There are a good few options in the deposit overview in the cashier on Mermaid. They accept laser through moneybookers and bank transfers can be done really easily.

We are working on an option for players to buy paysafecard credit directly from us with cash. This hasn't been setup yet so laser might be the best option if you want to get in for this tournament tonight.

Send me an email stephen@pokerireland.ie this afternoon if you are having trouble and still want to be able to play. I'm running a charity tournament tonight in the Russell Court Hotel so won't be able to play in this myself....D'ohhh.

If you use the Paysafe-Card be careful with the exchange rate (which is very bad)!

3x EUR 50 Paysafe-Cards für EUR 150 convert to about $202,xx. So you are a little short of the required $170+35 Buy-In.

While the $205 total is a fair conversion of the EUR 150 the exchange rate offered by paysafe is about 3 cent lower than the actual rate.

We will look at that. As soon as the BOSS network accepts Euro we will be able to do this without converting to US$.

When I deposited I was asked did I want to deposit in $ or €. Am I talking about something separate? I know I deposited with a CC but it should still be the same surely, no?

I'll ask Anna to PM you on this.....I'm not sure about it myself mate but as far as I am concerned you shouldn't lose out either way. I depositted in Euro myself with a CC.

I'm not complaining Steve, and I don't really care about a couple of quid even if there were some exchange rates as I expected as much. I was just posting to say that I was allowed to deposit in €, but maybe it isn't enough for the last guy to have to not pay some commission, maybe it is a different thing he is referring to.

I'm not complaining either.
I'm fully aware that there are some depositing methods that cause some fee (or in that case not so good exchange rate). And it doesn't really matter for me if I have to pay about $2 more due to that ... just wanted to help people not to run into the same problem than me (being short of a few bucks to register).

I was lucky to have another Paysafe-Card available so I was able to register without having to go and get another one.
So you now have the first player from Germany registered ;-)

Same with me, I just picked € cos more often than not the exchange rates by the banks are higher than other places (never thought i'd have anything good to say in relation to a bank...:eek: )

Yea the exchange rates are in some situatuons horrible, i agree, however its the cashier in this case WEbdollar who are in top of that and nothing we influate or control at all, webdollar are known to have fairly decent rates but with paysafecards i must agree i dont know, i think its paysayfecard it self that influete some of the rates.

I will contact webdollar and see if we get some more info about it.

Derek is looking after all of the overseas players so he may well be able to get you a room in Bewleys.

There are 5 hotels right beside the RDS but the Sting concert in Croker is having a bad effect on accom' over the weekend of Oct 6th/7th.

How long do webdollar wait before processing withdrawals to neteller?

They normally sort out withdraws to Neteller the same day as its requested.
You can look in your cashier to se if it says pending or processed.
