Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Parked in traffic at the Ivagh baths, Dublin!.

Guys watch the little black lad selling the Evening Herald there. A few weeks ago I gave him two Euro for the Herald, put out my hand for change and he was gone walking through the traffic, of course I couldn't get out after him. And thinking it was probably a once off mistake I let it go.

Then yesterday afternoon that same happened again, by the same fella!.

Took the €2- avoided eye contact and made off down through the traffic again, leaving me starring in disbelief!.

I'll be dead-wide the next time!.

    Ba$tard will get his come-uppence!.

LOL, I'm on crutch's at the moment :(

But on a serious note, this guy is plain ripping people off.

Imagine he gets away with that for an afternoon, a nice little earner indeed!.

As someone not accustomed to buying this reputedly high quality publication, how much were you mugged/ripped off/over charged/short changed by?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 8,486 ✭✭✭miju

if you have leccie windows on your car leave just enough room for him to put his hand in next time then put up the window.

yeah, that'll learn him in future :(:(

What's the moral of this story?

    Don't by the Evening Herald.

Just curious - if it was a white skanger who did the ripping off would everyone be chuckling about this ?

So would I. I'm still chuckling at what happened the OP cos he was thick to trust the same guy again. You asked whether it would have made a difference if he was white. The answer to that is a definitive no. I'd still be out of the car.

Anyway, order the paper tomorrow and give him 50c. If he moans tell him he can take it out of the €2 he owes you already. Hopefully he'll keep going without eye contact.

Ring the Herald office and give a description of the bloke and wheer his pitch is,tell em he's done it twice so its not an accident.Chances are he's done it to a few people and he shouldnt be getting away with it.

Thats not mugging, that is a great little scam! He should be taking the money and handing over a folded up Herald AM with a sticker saying €2 on it.

ah come on now he was clearly stealing from the OP. its only small change which most people will shrug off and say to themselves something like "ahh sure he prob needs it more than me" but if he sells 100 papers a day and does this each time that kid is pulling in an extra €400 quid a week on top of what he gets for selling em in the first place

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,243 ✭✭✭✭Jesus Wept

    ^^^^

    Agree.

And how would he be tipping him?! Did you read the OP's post? :p

Next time try giving the little bugger the exact change.. see what happens then.

Thing is if I did get out and grab the guy, if he was a "white Skanger" I'd be applauded, if he was black it would be a race attack although both would deserve a kick up the hole.

Came up with a plan!. Its turning my window washer jets outwards towards him and getting him in a liquid drive by :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,401 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

In fairness it soiunds like a pretty good scam. He weeds out the people who would cop on to it by selling the Herald. Clever man

Why not just buy the paper in a shop... ;)

At least you can choose which one and get change..

Or even better just get one of the freebies "posted" through your window in the morning.

    1. dont buy the herald only idiots read it
    2. dont be so mean with money you probably spend more on petrol waiting at the lights
    3. dont be so stuck up and realise that you could easily be in his place
    4. try to resist the urge to give him any more money

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 8,486 ✭✭✭miju

thanks for demonstrating the very reason why this little ****tard is probably making more in a week than most hard working fold flippy.

    btw welcome to boards

As a great president once said, "There's an old saying in Tennessee, I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee, that says, fool me once, shame on, shame on you. Fool me..., you can't get fooled again" ;)

Pull up to the lights slowly, try catch them as they go green. get a news paper and drive off without paying. Do it in time so that he cant run after you :D

    That would be sooooo good.

What you should do for the next time is be ready.

If the paper costs €1.50, get 150 1C coins and give him that. In a bag.

Next time, "warm up" a two Euro coin in your cars cigarette lighter before you hand it to him.
