    What's that very bright object low in the sky right now (22:20; Thursday August 2nd)? ... ...Looking south, I believe. i'm assuming it's Jupiter.

    you would be right, it's Jupiter, check out http://www.stellarium.org/ if you don't already have it, it's cool and free and will tell you what all the bright things are in the sky at any particular time

    Yes, it is Jupiter. If you look in almost a dead straight line below it, you will see a flickering star. That is Antares, which is part of the constellation of Scorpius, which many people refer to as Scorpio. Here is another good site for telling you what you can see in the night sky from your location. You need to register and put in your location, but it is free and there is no downloading involved.

    Yes, nice to see Antares referenced so easily - dead straight line down. Will be interesting to follow this. If only the weather would improve already!
