I need a bit of help here. I'm doing quickenings, and they are causing maybe 100HP damage, and once only 34HP damage. Why are they so ****? Or am I doing something wrong?

The higher the level the more damage you can do, setting up a string of quickenings is more important though. The more quickenings that you can link together the more damage you can do. I've gotten a string of quickenings to do 10k damage once (only once :( ) but usally its only a hundred or something low like that.

Haven't invested much time/effor into getting many quickeings though so there may be more to it

Chainig them is really the key. One or two quickenings will do almost no damage. So you want to have at least 2 characters with one or two bars of MP before you can start doing damage. Once you have 3 characters with 3 bars each you can put together chains of 15 and above by mixing their strong and weak quickenings and recharging at the right time.

You probably know, but pressing R2 to remix the options is vital to get the ones you need, but you get less time after each successive move.

Try not to use quickenings that often though, they're kinda cheap! :p

Quickenings are only useful for finishing bosses off since the boss defence usually shoots up to silly levels when they are near death. As the others said you need to chain quickenings or else they are useless.

Yeah, but generally the quickenings themselves don't do great damage, even when chained, it's the move that you get at the end from getting a couple of successful chains that really does the damage.
Still, they don't become useful in themselves until later on in the game, around the 70% mark in my opinion, however I personally think it's ESSENTIAL to get all 3 quickenings as fast as possible for each character, for the simple fact that it trebles their MP.

Thanks for the replies, it was doing my head in. It's such a stingy game, no money, poor limit breaks and no character direction (they don't give hints on which character to train for what).

There's no difference in the characters. Just train them all in the best spells. No need to specialise. There is also plenty of money. Just sell the useless loot you get. Why the game doesn't give you money instead of loot is just stupid.

So there is absolutely no difference between the characters? That's a big change from the other FF's, there were always one or two characters that could never be good *cough* Rikku *cough*

Since the OP question was answered gona ask one meself,

Espers? what kind of levels are recomended before going after them. Bumped into one while I was wandering around some tunnels but undead guys kept coming and I had to run or die. Most of my characters are in the high 20's and low 30's. If some crazy leveling up is needed then I was going to wander on with the story some more but if its only a few levels I'd stick around and pick up a few more (2 just ain't cutting it at times ;))

Espers are absolutely useless in this game!! I recently cleared the game and never used one esper (not including when i summoned them to see how they fight).

Thats the real flaw of this game i feel. In previous FF's, it was such a thrill when you got a new summon (who remembers knights of the round, bahamut, anima) but in FF12 they are so useless.

In response to your question, they can be tough to beat but its really not worth it. If you're a perfectionist like me, then continue playing the game and come back when you're a bit stronger.

if you look at some of the faqs on espers they will give recommended levels for fighting espers. these are usual way too high though.

    I got that feeling back when i summoned Belial for the first time, the summoning animation is damn sweet looking, and for alot of them it's much better { Exodus , Ultima , Hashmal anyone ? :D }

I'd just do it once for each of the espers you have right now, it's worth it just to say to yourself you seen them once and they looked good.

i just come in to state that the bunny girl never leave my team unless she is forced by storyline lol

quickening by character is weak, the big blow after you adding many quickenings together deal massive damage, different combination gives you different big blow(3 quickenings = lvl1 blow,6= lvl2 big blow)as i can remember.

just, take the 3 backup characters, quickening them max when you enter the battle.let them fight to dead then switch out your 'real' combat team continue the battle.maybe quickening again when the boss is nearly dead as above said.
