Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. St Ives Apricot Scrub
    Body Shop bronzing/shadow quartet thingy
    Body Shop blush brush

ok they're not exactly big league, but I'd like to hear other recommendations.

Too many favourite beauty products to mention, my handbag always resembles an overnight bag with the amount of products I lug about. Would have to second watna re YSL mascara, its the best out there and they do it in amazing colours. The burgundy one particularly nice if you have blue or green eyes.

First of all I have to say that that Naked shampoo was the greatest waste of money, ever. Ok, maybe if you have a sensitive scalp it would be worth buying for the price of it, but beware, if you have long hair (past shoulder) keeping it clean with this stuff will cost you a small fortune. I would only recommend it for short hair.

Anyways, Clarins one step cleanser (for combination skin) is one of the best cleaners I have ever used. has never caused me a break-out.

Oil of Olay (with SPF 15), I think its called "Radiance" or something, is brilliant also, especially with the SPF in it. Never causes me a break-out either (believe me I have searched high and low for creams and potions, both cheap and expensive, that suit my skin and the two above are of the best).

Cant beat a pot of vaseline.

Pot of sudocreme. If you do get a spot/rash etc, this will calm it down and costs virtually nothing.

Theres no sodium laureth sulfate in it (foaming agent).... so it feels different to other shampoos.
I have very fine shoulder length hair myself and I find it great...

Oh yeah I know that......I was expecting the no suds bit. I have a sensitive scalp due to the Sodium Laureth Sulphate. I have past the shoulder, thick enough hair but it was really really hard to clean using that particular brand of shampoo.

Well it just goes to show that different products suit different people I suppose...
I think theres a few other non foaming agent shampoos around. Burts Bees do a shampoo bar, but I havent tried it yet.

Re: The Body Shop body butters- does their fragrance last long? Was thinking about getting one cos i don't wear perfume but don't want to fork out if the scent doesn't last.

PS Can anyone recommend a hair removal cream that works and that doesn't sting? Have tried the Veet in-shower one and the Nair strawberry one, to no avail.

A light natural tan does wonders, provided that you have skin that tans easily and does not burn. As with all beauty treatments, moderation is essential to avoid skin damage, be it the sun or beauty products.

    What say ye littlesurfer?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,653 ✭✭✭✭fits

a tan is a low degree burn... i.e. even a light tan damages the skin..

    so der!

Naturally I'm very pale and jealous of anyone who can tan, but thats a different matter...

All people are not the same. Not all skin types are damaged by light exposure in moderation. Recent dematological studies suggest that the body needs about 15 minutes of sun exposure per day to derive naturally occurring vit D, and that such exposure exhibits moderation and will result in a light tan (for those skins that have the proper composition for tanning). Supplemental vit D tablets are not equivalent to natural occurring sun exposure (although Vitamin corporations will advertise otherwise), suggesting that people who rely on artificial vit D tablets alone and avoid the sun will be deficient. MSNBC was the source of this report a few months back, but they referred to a rigorous university medical school study.

Furthermore, the human (Homo Sapien Sapien and its earlier forms) propensity to tan for some members of the species evolved in response to environmental conditions as a protective device over millions of years of evolution. The intermingling of different skin types is a very recent occurrance in terms of evolutionary time. For those interested in scientific sources that discuss the diversity of our human species, check out Darwin's theory of differential reproduction, or for a more interesting read, Robert Ardrey's African Genesis, both of which can be found in large university libraries.

    .....Anyway.

Benefit Dandelion blusher: I <3 it so much. It makes me look really glowing and healthy
Armani HydraGlow Foundation: Every single one of my six sisters use this. It's that good
Lancome Flextencils Mascara: Best. Mascara. EVER.
Johnsons Eye Makeup Removal Pads: A great idea that works really well in practice

Still haven't found a perfect moisturiser or cleanser, despite a LOT of experimentation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,986 ✭✭✭Red Hand

Hmmmm...as regards the vit d part, most white people will get that with a little contact of the sun on their hands and face. No need to sunbath.

Vit D is an organic chemical made by the body through a photochemical reaction, which means its needs light in order to be manufactured by the body. Darker skinned people living in high latitudes (such as African Americans living in Alaska) often need to take vit d supplements if there ain't no sun iin winter months...but it depends on how the vitamin is adminsitered. (The drug deliverry system...via transdermal patches or orally.)
