Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I thought it was on sky ? Ahh feck.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 888 ✭✭✭Kanney

Yeah me too, its on Sky Calcio apparently. TBH I know its not going to be the most competitive match but Derby and Bolton on live? My god.
I am confident of three points tonight. Altho Steve Bruce has come to Anfield this season with a lesser squad and took a draw, we didnt have Fernando back then for that match but hopefully he will play tonight.
Did I read right that Ujfalusi doesnt want to join Liverpool?

Yeah but according to Tony Barrett he was never a target
Despite speculation, Tomas Ujfalusi is not a target during this transfer window and the Czech international has not had any offer from Liverpool.

    Team according to F365:
    25. Jose Reina
    3. Steve Finnan
    17. Alvaro Arbeloa
    23. Jamie Carragher
    12. Fabio Aurelio
    16. Jermaine Pennant
    14. Xabi Alonso
    20. Javier Mascherano
    7. Harry Kewell
    8. Steven Gerrard
    9. Fernando Torres

    (subs:
    30. Charles Itandje (GK)
    6. John Arne Riise
    11. Yossi Benayoun
    15. Peter Crouch
    18. Dirk Kuyt )

    Pennant back?
Torres loan striker with Gerrard playing behind him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

5 man midfield of Jermaine Pennant, Harry Kewell, Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano and Steven Gerrard with Torres up front by himself according to the BBC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,326 ✭✭✭Zapp Brannigan

It's the 4-5-1! I like that very much! Didn't think Pennant would be back for awhile yet though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,048 ✭✭✭Unearthly

Looks a decent team to me. Enough to beat a poor Wigan side anyway

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

yep, Kuyt has paid for his poor showings in front of goal.

    Reina
    Finnan--Carra-Arbeloa-Aurelio
    Pennant-Alonso-Masch-Kewell
    Gerrard
    Torres

Bench- Itandje Riise Crouch Kuyt Benayoun

    They kept Pennants return quiet!

    Mike.

I didnt know that Pennant was fully fit back again

Dont like Gerrard in that position but its a strong enough team. Good to see Pennant back, he came out of nowhere..!

Heres hoping Gerrard gets a few goals to help me out in my fantasy football ;)

Yeah he's my captain this week! 2 assists, a goal and 3 bonus points would do nicely!!

But let's not get ahead of ourselves, we need to win this game and Wigan won't just roll over for us.

we need to win this game and Wigan won't just roll over for us.

Very true if we can nick a goal early on that should settle the nerves out there.
Looking forward to seeing how this formation plays tonight.

Could it possibly be 4-3-3 ?

    Reina

    Finnan--Arbeloa--Carra--Aurelio

    Alonso--Monster

    Gerrard

    Pennant
    Kewell
    Torres

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,042 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Strong team, quite happy with it. Would be a disgrace to drop any points here with that 11. Good to see Rafa clearly putting this as priority over the 2 cup games in the next week.

    Could also line up with
    ----Masch---Alonso
    Gerrard
    --Pennant
    Kewell
    Torres

    <edit> snap tusky

Yep, still sayin' it's off air.

Like the look of the team tonight, 'cept I'd have Babel in there instead of Harry.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Its up and running a bit choppy but watchable

Babel/Crouch for Luton Town game I suspect.

    Mike.

the true sports one on rojadirecta is looking good at the moment anyway. showing the team walking onto the pitch at the mo. English quality and decent in full screen. Im watching it through VLC as my sopcast is a bit dodge. If you have it, all you need to do is open the sopcast link, then open VLC and in "open network stream" add this http://127.0.0.1:8902 and it'll show your sopcast stream there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,904 ✭✭✭DeadSkin

The sound on ustream, started off all screwed, but has settled nicely now. Decent picture too :D

heh, and there was me believing what i saw with my own eyes. I should have known better,

    Tabloid journalism ftw!

Masch starting to look much more assured when he goes forward, had a great little link up with torres a few mins ago.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Well I'm watching and the only thing missing is the important bit - a goal.

Wigan are parking the bus whenever Liverpool have posession.

    Mike.

Torres is gonna score. He looks up for it tonight!

Looking well dodgy at the back. Giving away possession very cheaply.
Playing with a very slow tempo, far more urgency about Wigan when they're on the ball, and they look dangerous.

Torres and Gerrard linking up well when they're bothered.
Should win this easily if they all switched on and upped tempo a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,225 ✭✭✭Chardee MacDennis

Pennant is look very sharp, could be the missing piece?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 10,259 ✭✭✭✭Melion

I can see Kirkland having the usual wonder performance that former Liverpool keepers have when they go back to Anfield

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Pennant is full of running and good control.

Gerrard needs to be a bit higher up the pitch, some good near misses.

    Mike.

i can see Michael Brown being an important player for Wigan this year

The lack of movement off the ball is shockin.

Eh, I'd have to disagree. What's lacking is goals.

Neither do I, but he's just the type of player a dog fighting lower table team needs. Bit of the "Robbie Savage"s about him.

Some glimpses of quality, but still not playing to our potential.

    You watching the same game?
I've lost count of the amount of times Carra had to resort to a backpass or a hoof cos the midfielders weren't interested in showing for the ball and he was being pressured.

You and me both. One of, if not THE dirtiest player in the league.

Funny how it was mentioned that Liverpool ex-goalkeepers always play well against them, just got me thinking that a lot of goalies who havent made it at Liverpool for some reason or another always end up being good quality keepers once they leave - James, Friedel, Kirkland. Id imagine Scott Carson could be added to that list in a few years.
