Is that some stupid release clause price from Barca/Real I wonder?

    Mike.

Anyone see LFC Now today? Rafa says they were looking at a 21 year old but his price was 40 million euro? Who could that be?

Did he mention the position ? I take it the price tag scared him away ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,326 ✭✭✭Zapp Brannigan

no mention of position, he was just talking about the crazy prices for players, and how we got a bargain with Skrtel. Isn't David Silva 21, reckon he could have been who we were looking at?

Oh and there is something bad coming out of Mo leaving for Juve. It will be the end of the best chant at Anfield for years, no more best midfield in the world :(

Nope. They plan to change momo for Lucas Leiva.

"Woah, woah, woah, we've got the best midfield in the world, we've got Xabi Alonso, Lucas Leiva, Gerrard and Mascheranooooooh,"

Never a fan of that chant...as we dont have the best midfield in the world.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,508 ✭✭✭Daemonic

True, but a name that works well in a chant is about the height of Momo's contribution for the last year or so ;)

Not at all, it just has to be re jigged and "Lu-ucas Levia" can be sung in place of Sissoko.

Alonso singing the "best midfield in the world" chant. legend.

wooo-oh-oh-oh-oh,we've got the best midfield in the world,
    we've got
    Xabi Alonso
    Lucas Leiva
    Gerrard and Mascherano-oooooooo-ooooo

would work ok, songs have evolved after players have left before
not mad on the tune either tbh...

as Rafa said, it should be: we have "potentially" the best midfield in the world :)

Good to see we have cover in DC now and even better if it is true that Mo is leaving, has been v poor since his injury.

One thing that occured to me

with Carra-Agger-Skertyl-Hypia...........is there a place for Hobbs in the team realistically anymore?

How any fans would think a song about 4 central midfielders can possibly be the best midfield in the world regardless of their talents is bizzare. How Rafa can think anything potentially about playing 4 central midfielders across midfield is even more amusing.Maybe they should rejig it to ' we have the best midfield in the world, but it's a shame 2 of them are defensive players and none of them offer any width.

Kinda sounds like the midfield now playing with alleged wingers.

    ;)

Old Alonso video but shows his class. Watch the little trick at around 40 seconds.

Do you prefer we won it 5 times ?? Factual.

I am still having trouble believing that you took time away from your busy day to pick apart the lyrics of a song sang by a football team that you don't like

    How about this one

    And it's Man United -
    Man United F.C.
We're by far the greatest team
    The World has ever seen.

That is so unbelievably false as to be laughable OMG, won't somebody save us from inaccuracies in chants sang at football matches

    Ive got one.

    Xabi Alonso
    Hes Spanish
    He plays in midfield
    Hes got dark hair

    Hows that ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

I don't know, I'd characterise his hair as more Brown than dark.

    I long for his return!!

Saying that, even though he has been off form in recent months, I still thinke he is by far one of the best central midfielders in England.

I think he's a nationalist Basque despite playing for Spain. Like an Irish nationalist playing for the Lions in rugby perhaps... but he says he's Basque so I wouldn't call him Spanish!

Klinsmann was offered the Liverpool job
Rafael Benitez's worst fears were realised last night, as news emerged that his job had been offered to Jurgen Klinsmann. The former Germany boss was yesterday installed as the next coach of Bayern Munich, but senior officials at the Bavarian club confirmed they moved so swiftly because Klinsmann had been the subject of an official approach by Liverpool. One high-ranking official admitted: "There was a detailed proposal made to Jurgen by Liverpool, just waiting for his signature.''

I think by the start of next season, even if Hyppia is still at the club, Hobbs will be ahead of him in the CB pecking order, so yes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

So who's lying, Klinsmann himself, or the Bayern officials ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,399 ✭✭✭✭Thanx 4 The Fish

Would be handy for Klinsmann to get himself a move on. Liverpool could of course be lying too but the person with most to gain would be Jurgen surely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,067 ✭✭✭✭Tusky

I still think that Klinsmann story is bull****. There are quotes there but they aren't credited to anyone in particular. They hold about as much weight as 'Rafas close friends' saying he wanted to go.

One thing I have slowly learned from supporting Liverpool over the past few years (and also from studying media in college) is that the media really are full of ****. They're only interest is to sell papers or get hits on their website and the best way to do that is to have interesting stories. They need to write about something....and if theres nothing interesting to write about, stuff is made up.

I'm not disputing that. I'm disputing whether he said it at all.

Sounds to me like the media making their excuses about how they got it wrong. Is the official named? or is it attributed to an un-named high ranking official?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

I dont think it was poor English, i think he was just saying he was a "nice boy", and anyone who can say a 6ft2' big black malian, all tackling, tough as nails defensive is a "nice boy", is a legend in my book ;)

Watch this programme now, because it will never be allowed a repeat. British law prohibits a video release and I'm too puked out to consider a second series. Brass Eye should put an end to the recent spate of feeble, under-realised faux-prankster drivel. It won't of course. It will just spawn another host of second-rate imitators. So top this, you quisling ****s. The whole of the media is a deception, everything that happens is a deception, cloaked in coded statements - a pay rise, a sacking, whatever. I can't stand that high-handed attitude that there's a proper way to behave. Everyone's ****ing about. I’m just displaying it. You can dupe people till the cows come home as far as I'm concerned

Reina, Arbeloa, Carragher, Hyypia, Finnan, Riise, Mascherano, Gerrard, Benayoun, Torres, Voronin.

Subs - Itandje, Agger, Alonso, Kuyt, Babel.

Balugue (sp?) on the English medias obsession with hounding Rafa out of a job:

    http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid958992159?bctid=1370845036

Last point is absolutely spot on.

hmmm. Riise left mid is never a good thing. would have liked Pennant and Benayoun or Pennant and Babel. Kewell must be injured having not featured the last two games. Or maybe being saved for Luton.

    *shoots self in head*

Riise on the left wing ? Its like Zenden all over again. Thought we were past that. Sure, Babel is inconsistent but Id much rather give him some game time in the hope that he will cement his place in the team.

Crouch injured ? If not, where the hell is he ? Where are Pennant & Kewell ?

I thought Crouch's suspension was over? Looks like direct route football again, hoof and pray Torres or Stevie is on the end of it. Not even Pennant to offer a hint of width. Hope Agger gets a run.

What did I say? Crouch in the cold.

    Mike.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,067 ✭✭✭✭Tusky

Surely Crouch is on his way out of Anfield. 4 starts in the premier league this season so far...

The problem is, we play 4-4-1-1 rather than 4-4-2. Torres is always going to be the furthest up the pitch which means that the place left over is in the hole. Crouch isn't exactly suited to that position.

Riise seems to be immune to being dropped for porn form. He really hasn't been playing well for a long time now it seems, but nearly always seems to make the team sheet.
