If DIC were to buy Liverpool I wonder how it would sit with the Socialist Scouse Brotherhood on RAWK. Being a free-market bastard I would'nt have any major political qualms but they should be appalled at the idea.

DIC do have a vision with everything they own. If they buy then LFC is in for a treat!!

I have no idea why anyone would think DIC would be better than the current crop. Hick's and Gillet had a "vision" (i.e. business plan). They are investors like any other, and they will milk the club for all it's worth.

    the grass is always greener...

Well DIC has no trouble investing to get the best money they can out of it. If they bought a number of high calibre players at a young age then thats an investment. Over time if you don't have to buy many players then your profit margins are higher. DIC have the money to do this, G&H don't. THey have borrowed enough money, if they keep borrowing then LFC will be in trouble.

Plus theres the fact that DIC want success in everything they do. they want to be "the best". be it horses, hotels, schools, islands, beaches or football clubs, they want the best.

They want this to increase their standing on the world stage, to do good for their image. Hicks and gillette couldnt give a ****e about any of that and only want to make $$$ as much as possible, as quickley as possible.

Hicks is on record as saying that to make a club a financial success, a club does not have to be successful on the pitch.

    RAFA REVEALS SUPPORT FROM HICKS
My relationship with Tom Hicks is good and I don't have any problems because I'm professional.

Is this a little dig at Gillett?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Lads, DIC want to make money. That's it. They are the 'best' at doing that, in that they are very successful, but then again, so are G&H.

Ultimately DIC are going to want to raise ticket prices, slash transfer fees, etc. etc. just like the Glaziers have done at United. The only advantage to them over G&H is that the club won't be in debt, but the practical effects of taking all the profits out of the club will be the same.
DIC are better for two reasons
They can afford to build the stadium which is essential for long-term growth
They can afford to take the club out of debt, which reduces the risk upon the club

Ultimately however they are a business, and will act as such. Even when they sell off, which is their plan, unless you get bought by a new owner who isn't as business focused, the situation will stay the same. Just hope that the club floats, and you can start to try takeover. That's the sad reality of business with football clubs today.

p.s. How is the fan buyout thing going?

I agree to a point. I feel that more transfer fees would be given by DIC though. Not an open cheque book like Abramovic gave Mouriniho but more than the Yanks have been supplying. The Yanks have been taking out loans every time we buy a player...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Maybe. United's net spend has been about 10 million a year since the Glaziers took over.
Liverpools net spend over the last couple of years has been 15 mil, 17 mil, 20 mil, 33 mil.
I really can't see the Yanks increasing that. The difference is that Rafa is in a better position to be able to spend it all on big players, as the squad is much deeper now. However I wouldn't expect a huge increase in transfer funds, if anything, there was an element of appeasement in G&H's approach when they tookover the club, and a high initial net spend could have been part of that.

gnomic [noh‐mik], characterized by the expression of popular wisdom in the condensed form of proverbs or aphorisms, also known as gnomes. The term was first used of the ‘Gnomic Poets’ of 6th‐century Greece, although there are older traditions of gnomic writing in Chinese, Egyptian, and other cultures; the Hebrew book of Proverbs is a well‐known collection. The term is often extended to later writings in which moral truths are presented in maxims or aphorisms. See also sententia.

We don't have enough 6th century Greek literary stylings on this thread :p

Defensive crisis for today, Agger not ready, Carra suspended, Skrtel not ready. So Hyypia and Arbeloa (or Hobbs maybe?)

    Reina
    Finnan-Arbeloa-Hyypia-Aurelio
    Pennant-Gerrard-Masch-Riise
    Torres-Kuyt

    Is my guess.

What? Not sure how clever that was. Oh well then Arbeloa it is unless Agger is risked which would be foolish in my book.

that's the crux of the matter though. at the end of the day, you (and everyone else) as the fans have no clear insight into the respective business plans, so you're only guessing. and by and large football fans as a collective group tend to get their guesses very wrong (United being one example). If I were a fan of pool i would be very very wary of any takeover. not because i don't believe they can improve the club but rather I feel in general fans should not blindly assume faith in any proposed investor. To do so just gives them the room to do whatever the hell they want with a club, be it good or bad. Ultimately i feel the fans, by withholding support can steer the direction of a club a lot better than by giving support.

Official Lineup. Alonso not even on the bench. Same team that played Inter Milan so presume its this.

    Reina

    Finnan--Arbeloa--Hyypia--Aurelio

    Lucas--Masch

    ---Kuyt
    Gerrard
    Babel

    Torres

Subs : Martin, Crouch, Benayoun, Riise, Skrtle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭herbieflowers

ah sure Liverpool fans would put their blind faith in any takeover, such has been their dismal inconsistenccy on the pitch over the past few seasons! :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,904 ✭✭✭DeadSkin

Arbeloa the only change[forced], no Alonso on bench and not a gnome in sight ;):p

Were playing at home..I really dont think we should be playing with two holding midfielder and a striker on the wing. Blah, wait and see I suppose as it could be 4-3-3

    Reina

    Finnan---Arbeloa--Hyypia---Aurelio

    Masch--Lucas
    Gerrard
    Kuyt
    Babel
    Torres

With that CB pairing it probably makes sense to play Masch and Lucas.

Why the hell does Fairclough kep going on about Kuyt taking so long to and not putting the ball across a few min sabck. If he'd have just lumped the ball into the box one of the 6 boro players would have been on to it. Even if he hit a Liverpool head the 3 players were on the edge of the box and no chance of scoring. I think he's watching Andy Gray for commentating tips.

Jesus , was getting worried Rochemback was about to open up for a shot on the edge of the box (till super dirk(tm) appeared:D)

2 super finishes from Torres. Did really well with the first, could have went down and let Dirk have the tap in for his week long hat-trick. :D

FFS disallowed or not, crap marking again.

All he had to do was head it in instead of cheating. Is Arbeloa going missing or what?

Thats not right. It's not 20 league goals because he hasnt got that so it's overall. Did Gerrard not get 20 in all comps a couple of seasons back.

    From the BBC:
1532: Fernando Torres reaches 20 goals with those two quickfire strikes - the first Liverpool player to reach that mark since Michael Owen.
