Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Dunphy: They're playing with Hyppia tonight, now he hasn't played in the big games..

Brady: Eh he played in the Emirates last week Eamonn

    ffs.

If Liverpool's defensive problems are pace, then with Crouch up top they don't need to push out very far to get the ball to him.. practically anything put up his way at height will be won by him and then it's a matter of winning 2nd balls.

    Which requires runners.

If Liverpool try to play this offensive front 4, but then don't push up the back four, they'll leave huge gaps in the middle of the pitch, which Arsenal will exploit. I'd be surprised if Rafa was keeping the back line deep in this game.

If you think your formation is weird, you should see Arsenals, Diaby and Eboue on the wings.

Anyway, off to the pub, godspeed Liverpool, I hope you lose, because I want Arsenal to focus on the CL :) If you could take them to extra time, and injure Fabregas Abedayour and Clichy that'd be great!

zzzzz 20minutes of zonal marking discussion from the RTE chumps.

This lad Souness sure does have all the answers, could have a career in management....oh wait a mineh!

I think Souness was bang on about the issue of taking responsibility. Players must say thats/he's mine and go for the ball. Not stand about marking air.

    Mike.

    Mike.

But there is responsibility, its just that they cant pick up on it.

If someone scores in your zone, you are responsible. The players and managers know whos fault it was, its just the media that dont.

I will admit though, that we have been awful from set pieces recently.

not happy with the starting lineup, i'm expecting Alonso to have another quiet one tonight. he's not been great since he's come back from injury.

my confidence in us going through has dropped a little tbh

Yeah he pretty much mirrored what I said the other day. Bendtner ran across 2 or 3 players "zones" before scorign the other day.

If you watch the set pieces there are free players all over the place.

    .

Yes but one of the problems is that as a player runs from one persons zone to another he has the run on the player. The defender has to then make a standing jump to compete with a player who has a running start, only one winner there.

Or as has happened far too often, players let opponents run aroudn the box and dont really pick any up at all.

Here we go. Is there an eyes closed smilie?

I hate when we play the offside constantly, it can't work indefinately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

    ****

That was far too easy. They had so much of the ball in and around our box it's unreal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,373 ✭✭✭Dr Galen

pretty poor defending for that goal really. good finish though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,411 ✭✭✭shotamoose

They're doing a Liverpool on us, pressuring very well and forcing us into mistakes. Alonso needs to have a big game tonight, so far he's having the opposite.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

Is it opposite day where we are actually playing away and dont need to score?

The couple of times Torres has had the ball he seems to be holding onto it a bit too long and looks like he wants to beat them on his own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,727 ✭✭✭✭Sherifu

    On the rack big time.

Babel is good for a goal coming off the bench :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 882 ✭✭✭manster

It could be 3-0 if we're not careful. Crouch & Torres partnership not working. We need changes now:(

I don't think it's our strikers that are the problem at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,951 ✭✭✭✭Villain

You need to get Gerrard into the middle, Macherano is under pressure and Alonso isn't making any tackles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,727 ✭✭✭✭Sherifu

    More like it! Almunia scrambling.

Not a whiff of a goal chance so far. Mascherano's passing is crap. Alonso is annonymous. Kuyt is Kuyt. Our best chance has been a deflection. Come on Hyppia. It takes a defender to score!!!

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 5,501 Mod ✭✭✭✭spockety

    Game On!

I presume that is the first time a man marking defence has been breached?

Hah screw you and your crappy Zonal marking Arsenal. :D

Is Senderos a defender?I'd have Kuyt in the back 4 ahead of him anyday.

We're in a very dangerous place now. If we concede another we are in big trouble.

dunphy questioning hyppia, cant wait to see what he says now!

And to think I was questioning Sami's inclusion! He's scored some lovely goals for us, and that was another. One for all the youngsters watching :pac:

Liverpool right back in it now. Pity it's half time though. They were looking their most dangerous in the last few minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,727 ✭✭✭✭Sherifu

I'll take that for half time. Phew.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 18,696 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kimbot

Jesus next season I would play him there with Skrtle and Agger in the middle!!

We need to start the second half with a higher tempo now!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,411 ✭✭✭shotamoose

At least Alonso's getting a bit of a handle on things. Arsenal still looking so dangerous though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,835 ✭✭✭StickyMcGinty

what is benitez thinking isolating gerrard on the wing

poor poor first half, lucky to be level. first "chance" after 23 mins, an aurelio shot.

alonso off, gerrard back to the middle, babel on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,082 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

phew, some frenetic half! Adebayor is constantly looking dangerous, very nearly been released a few times. Crouch and Torres combo not paying off yet. think the second half is gonna be a nail biter, pool Cant let Arsenal score another.
