Also can we all just appreciate Sami's goal. What a header, the man is a red legend and deserves the new contract he's just signed.

EDIT: I believe Torres scored 2 against Porto, and one against Marseille. Both games away from home.

Away to Porto it was Kuyt got our goal in the 1-1 draw, at Home to Porto Torres got 2 alright.

Phew tired and emotional now anyway.

Feel bit sorry for Arsenal, horrible to bow out when they'd scored what im sure they all though was the winner at 7mins from time. Ah well, thats life, Chelsea part 6478 next!

I dont think Rafa will make the mistake he made with the starting formation. Start with one or the other.

Rafa started Crouch to give him a chance after him scoring against arsenal the other day.

Arsenal couldn't win any of the 3 games, despite having the advantage of 2 of the games at home. Even if Arse had gotten the peno, Liverpool still outscored this amazing, freeflowing Arsenal attack.

    Delighted.

I don't think having Crouch on was a bad thing. I think he played alright. There were alot of sloppy passes going on but I can't remember him being responsible for any of them. Also, long balls never seemed to find him to let him assist Torres. However, in saying that, Babel on for Crouch was a good move. Not for the obvious reasons, (gettin a peno and scoring), but he seems to be a great impact sub and attacking was the best way to defend tonight.
Was delighted that we never held back to defend after going ahead. Arguably we showed more drive to score another after Torres (future husband:D) scored that cracker because it was needed for some safety. Hell of a game. Was sure it was all over 7 mins from time.

Now for the hattrick against Chelski!!!!

Ryan Babel was IMMENSE when he came on!!We all know he can do it!!

By the way Wenger just said 'I had a clear view,it was never a penalty'

Least all of us admitted last week that Kuyt fouled Hleb!!

    Hes sick........LOVE IT!!!!

Jeez, those Arsenal fans (on boards.ie) are more than a little bitter. What a shame. I always thought there was an element of mutual appreciation between Liverpool and Arsenal. It wasn't too long ago that Arsenal played what could only be described as a more conservative version of how Liverpool currently play. Even then though we could identify a good team, and there was none of the animosity that existed with UTD, or more recently Chelsea. But now, a lot of winging over penalties, a sense that Liverpool ruined the Arsenal party. Liverpool should have bowed down and let them through. I thought Hleb went down easy versus Kuyt, yeah Kuyt pulled on him, but not in a manner that would actually make a fully grown man fall over. Up until tonight I had put Arsenal fans in a different category to UTD and Chelsea (not that there's lot of those over here) fans, but the ungracious manner of their response to defeat makes me think twice.

Fair play to Arsenal, you have a ridiculously talented bunch of players. You tore us apart at times. Ultimately Liverpool out-battled you. Hope you beat UTD at the weekend.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

The formation was a problem in that it put Gerrard in his worst postion and Crouch did'nt get the crosses he needed. When G Unit went central he was more effective.

Babels bursts of speed were exellent just the job when needed. Kuyt and Carra were immense down the right side, Hyypias header was just perfect even if he did have all the time in the world!

Well you can forgive us for feeling a bit miffed at the penalty decision. Im sure if the shoe was on the other foot boards.ie would probably crash due to fans venting their frustration.

    Anyway its all history.

Amazing stuff, what a brilliant European night again from Liverpool and hard luck to Arsenal. Just calming down now:)

Interesting Chelsea match now to think about. We can rest players in the English league but we have the first leg at home this time. I reckon Rafa will go for the juggler and try and win the game so he can leave Carra and Gerrard on the bench for the Stamford Bridge leg.

In fairness, Senderos would be crap in any system. They'd have been better off getting a loaner off us. At least he would have pretended to be playign for Arsenal.

Hes been poor for the last month or two to be honest. Hes been letting in goals he really should be saving.

Looking at the fixtures - Chelsea have five or six days off before the Anfield leg but they have the United showdown (potentially) at Stamford Bridge in between the two legs. Tough week. We have Birmingham away in between. Small thing like that could be a crucial advantage. Also looking at the highlights Chelsea looked very poor tonight so I'm feeling confident of another final at this stage.

Worked out in the end tonight but I was worried about how long Rafa took to change the formation. If Arsenal had gotten back into gear we could have suffered badly. Crouch is unlucky but Rafa can't fit him in while playing Kuyt on the right and so on so its hard to see him playing in the top games.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,263 ✭✭✭yom 1

    what can I say....

Quality game. Was suprised to see Crouch start but was happy he did cos it meant we were not going out to just defend our slender lead. Arsenal tore outta the starting blocks and deserved their lead. But as happened last week they then stopped playing. Great header from Sami, nice way to celebrate his new contract. He was already written into Anfield folklore but this just adds to his legend status amongst pool fans.

Liverpool started to turn the screw and kept it going into the start of the second half. Torres took his goal beautifully. Quality finish. Was glad Liverpool kept pushing on though for a 3rd goal. I've slated Walcott several times but that was some ****ing run. Was gutted absolutely gutted and then bam - peno. Gerrard had done absolutely nothing all game but it took some balls to step up. Great peno. As for Babel, his pace is just unreal. Really had a big influence on the game and took his goal very, very, well.

All in all great game, think it shaved a year or 2 off my life though:p Another semi against Chelsea awaits. Hopefully we can make it hattrick of semi final wins against them. WALK ON WALK ON!

just threw it on there after seeing your post, classic commentary:) "Liverpool's history and prestige as the best English team in Europe are safe in the hands of Rafa Benitez" (roughly:pac:)

edit: FFS they shouldn't be allowed show ads like that on TV. Worse than youth defence stuff. Didn't think anything could piss me off tonight but watching sicko carcrashporn surgery has wrecked my buzz.

    wat a game.

unlucky Arsenal, but imo, which granted is a tad biased, the better team over the two ties went through.

    Rafa is a ****ing god.

Kuyt should never get stick, he is up there with Gerrard,Carragher,Torres and Masch when it comes to our most important players in big games, he always does it. top scorer for us in europe if i'm not mistaken.

    Torres is brilliant.

    Crouch did well.

    I love Reina.

    Babel did brilliant.

    Masch was amazing.

if Aurelio can stay fit, he's gonna be super for us.

    Carra did great.

Skrtle did great and is gonna be a ****ing amazing player for us. hard as ****in nails.

    wat a night.

Wenger does sulk a little too much, great manager, but shut the **** up. Him and Arsenals players showed us no respect in the last week. They got wat they deserved.

He said that these three 3 games would define Arsenals season?

Ok, 3 games over, you were good, but not good enough.

PS-wat a run by walcott, amazing, reminded me off giggs against arsenal.

    Highlights:

    Walcotts run really was superb.
    Stekelly wrote: »

Yeh, definitely agree with that - thought he quite poor for the goal, esp since its one of his strengths (shot-stopping).

Despite one or 2 shakey moments, I thought Aurelio was superb tonight, especially given the fact he had no protection in front of him on the left-wing (Gerrard) initially.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,460 ✭✭✭Orizio

There isn't a hope in hell Kuyt is our top scorer in any league.

Walcott and Babel were indeed fantastic. I don't see why they get so much stick, they are both young, have immense potential and both have been threatening to put in a huge performance for the last couple of months. Babel is the only winger we have, even if he is still raw.

Aurelio is very solid as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Three things stuck out for me, Reina was defo poor for the first goal, and Skertle was poor for the first goal, and why in the world didn't Mascherano foul Walcott on his run?

I think Rafa did very well in identifying Toure as Arsenals weak point over the two ties, Gerrards goal and Babels penalty came from him being beaten in a dribble.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

pretty sure, Kuyt is our top scorer in the CL.

Super game, not for the faint hearted, another fantastic European night at Anfield.

Don't think it was penalty[don't care cos I get me stake back from Paddy Power :p]. When they got the second goal I thought that's it season over. Within seconds, penalty, f*ck!!!! Stevie G was poor tonight but the man put the penalty away.

Sami's goal, fan-f*ckin-tastic, the man has been a revelation this season. Torres goal, we all know he's capable of that, just class.
Kuyt, again worked his socks off, probably even more than what we've seen in previous games.

Babel should be used as a sub, he's done it a few times this season from the bench and looks much more lively when he comes off the bench.

Arsenal only had 2 corners[I think] so that reduced a big percentage of the set piece threat.
What a run from Walcott for Adebayor's goal and Diaby's strike was excellent.

So, here we are again, Chelsea. Brilliant!

I disagree, i think he is usally among our best players when we play big games, its against poorer teams his lack of skill is apparent.
against top teams, he keeps it simple and is usually excellent,

how can ya not see?!:rolleyes:he's a better looking version of Rooney!
