Im not really sure on this being the way to judge midfields.
For example one could just as easily write;
Alonso < Essien
Sissoko < Ballack
giving Chelsea 2 wins instead of 1.

I think Chelsea have more strength in the central midfield simply because there are more winning combinations that can be made, whereas Liverpool, as we've seen, depend a fair bit on Alonso's fitness. Regardless of who else is injured, with Alonso fit, we're very comfortable though. Either way, Liverpool still do have a great CM.

On Jones. 12million is a bit steep for a few months of prem football, albeit excellent performances. Could maybe be gotten for 9 or 10? Regardless, if we got him, it would be an improvement and he will get better. Drogba is an excellent comparison.

On Finances, I very much doubt that this close to the transfer window reopening that we would be releasing statements saying we have money to spend if we didn't.

because I've lost all respect for Kuyt and if Crouch doesnt cut the mustard, Babel can come on for him at half time and move Harry up front to poach. Otherwise Babel on for Harry after an hour. How do these guys get paid for this ? Mascherano is an absolutely top class player and an integral part of the Argentine national side. He would walk into almost any club in the world. Anyone who watches football should know this.
