Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hey guys, I want to get your opinion on something. I was thinking of starting a website/forum for DJ's in Ireland. There are plenty of sites out there related to dance music & clubbing in Ireland, like IrishClubbing, BodyTonicMusic, DanceMusicIreland etc, but as far as I can see none directly related to DJ'ing alone... So I was thinking about starting one myself.

What do you think? Do you think it's a good idea and that people would be interested in a forum where everyone is a DJ and everyone is Irish? Or do you think people would be too settled in visiting the forums they are already on and perhaps it would not go anywhere...

As I'm sure you've seen from my sig I already started a website specifically for Digital DJ's: www.digital.dj . I really enjoyed making it and watching it grow. I can pull together another one pretty quick and easy.

    Opinions/comments?
    Thanks

would be great as long as doesnt end up as another one full of people waiting to correct you on anything,or dismiss anyones opinion that differs to theirs.Too many people are arseholes one the internet these days.

A site for irish djs would be good if it took off.you could do guest mixes from irish djs every month, give people a chance to have their mixes heard.

Nice one,on the digital dj site btw

    Thanks Cheese!

Yes I totally agree - many DJ's are totally up their own asses, I hate it. It can be really annoying, especially on the internet where people don't have to be nice or polite, just give sarky answers and try to be funny. That's why I life this forum everyone is pretty sound.

I only want everyone on my sites just to be cool and helpful to all the other members, without being a twat about it. A few of the other irish dance music sites have so many morons/messers, it puts me off.

Good ideas you have, I was thinking something similar. I'll see if I can whip something up this week.

Sounds like a great idea. It'd be cool to have a place that you could post mixes to and get honest and helpful opinions for other Djs, regardless of their skill level. As a bedroom Dj myslef it'd be good to get some knowledgeable opinions as opposed to well meaning mates who say you're deadly even though you know yourself you're rubbish or people who think mixing is something to do with concrete or baking!

    Zascar,
if you do go for it (and I'd like to see you do), make sure that it is going to cater for ALL types of DJing. It's not just about beatmatching dance tracks anymore, which like some of the guys here have said, there are too many 'jocks' with opinions thinking they are the written rules of DJing. Handbag and Party DJing is more popular than dance-track beatmatching, as that is what most clubs in the world do. Think about the rules of engagement so to speak, where everyone who is in the business is on the same level, no levels to distinguish between members, and each must respect the others views, and can find some part of your forum to express what they do best (even if there are going to be people who say otherwise).

    Just my 2 cents worth.

    Seanie.

as long as you go for it with no expectations then you wont be dissapointed if it dosnt work.

i think djing in ireland may not be big enough to support a specialised website(the ones you listed survive on general clubbers with dmi probably having the highest amount of actual djs/producers regularly posting)

also if not moderated properly it will turn into one long vinyl vs everything else debate

I agree with the posts of DJs saying 'you gotta mash up, beatmatch and stuff' 'only vinyl can give a true dj sound' etc I use PCDJ and Virtual DJ with a 00DJ. (details) I have over 25000 MP3s on my 3 hard drives and never beatmatch. I just use the automix function. I know it's cheating but it works for me.

Most gigs I do are birthdays, christenings and a singles night. So really people just want to have a good time and not really need to know if a song is matched to the previous one. I have never had any complaints, (well not to my face!) so I say 'If it aint broke, don't fix it!)

Good luck with the site Zascar.
