Was in Gatwick airport 2-3 weeks ago and tried to connect to the wi-fi network. It was unsecured but when I tired to connect on my PSP I kept getting an error telling me to check security settings. Happened in 2 hotels as well. I can connect fine to my WLAN at home btw. Anyone know what went wrong. The PSP only uses 802.11b I think so could it be that those WLANs were running 802.11g and not 'b' or mixed?

Most airport and hotel wireless is unsecured as you noticed. The one thing you have to remember is that the majority of these involve you logging into their wireless controller page and inputting a prepaid voucher code as even though they aren't secure, they aren't free.
