[REG] Good value car insurance.

I've been out of Ireland for the last 6 years. Came back last year and I've finally gotten fed up getting rained on and got a small 1.2 Punto. I haven't been insured in Ireland recently so I've no non claims bonus. I was insured before I left years ago but I've no forms and I can't even remember who it was with.

I was looking at the insurance websites.

Quinn quoted me around €1000 for third party fire & theft.
AIB quoted me around €600.

Would any of you have any suggestions on who would be good?

I'll ring around the companies on Monday but has anybody been in a similar situation and gotten a great quote?

Go through and insurance broker. They go through them all for you and get beneficial rates as a broker. Yes you will have to pay them a comission but it ends up worth it in the end unless you are going to ring 20 different companies 20 times.

And seriously, take fully comprehensive out, you just don't know what might happen. I know a girl who didn't have fully comprehensive, road works were going on in Rathfarnham a month ago, car was parked outside a friends house, water flooded into the road, wrote off her car and got no insurance cover - now has no money to replace car.

for cheap insurance go with quinn for service/extras but more expensive go with axa the other insurance companies are in between

If you ring them and expalin you have no claims outsdie the uk and roi they may make allowances for it,if you can prove it.

even if you were outside ireland you can still have a no claims bonus. i've got a french driving licence & drove for 3 years in france before moving here. get a letter from your previous insurance company. unless you didn't drive for the past 6 years of course.

Moving from Hibernian to Quinn Direct given I'll be saving 200 odd euro. Hibernian wouldnt come down to the Quinn Direct price even after applying their "loyalty bonus" of 2 years.

Pays to shop around.

I went with FBD. They were €100 cheaper (€560) than the next cheapest and way cheaper than Quinn or any of those broker sites.
