Mate has a HP Pavillion dv8000, got a virus and reformatted the windows partition (these things have 3 partitions - OS/Data/Recovery). Unfortunately no recovery cds were made using the recovery manager before the reformat (hindsight 20:20 yadda yadda! :-p) and the partition can't be accessed to do so. It looks like the store imported it from the US, and HP US can only post the recovery cds to US addresses so basically we're stuffed! :( Is there anywhere we can get the Hp Backup & Recovery manager software or would anyone happen to have a copy, please?

    It is what it's.

Borrow an XP cd (assuming it's XP) that matches the version that was previously installed. It was probably XP Home SP2 OEM. Install it using the 25 digit product key on the sticker on the underside of the laptop.

The drivers for any components that don't auto install with XP will be available for download on the HP website.
