Have any of you ever considered the fact that you can't get your minds around the fact that someone could consider themselves both American and another ethnicity because Ireland is basically one ethnicity?

And I would never consider Irish-Americans to be rich, apart from a few lucky exceptions like the Kennedys. I think White Anglo Saxon Protestants are generally considered to be the dominant class over there. The Americans who visit Ireland aren't exactly rich. Believe me, rich Americans don't go to Ireland.

This is probably not the place to put this but why the hell is it that only rich Americans claim to have Irish ancestry?
South Americans? Central Americans? North Americans? If North Americans, then Canada or US or Mexico? If US Americans, then what region of the country (New England, South, Mid-West, etc.)? If a region, then what state? If a state, then what county? If county, then urban or rural? If urban, then central city, suburban, or x-urban? If central city, what part? In the relatively short time that I have spent in the States, I have been struck by it's cultural, ethnic, economic, religious, etc., etc. diversity. That's why I just love broad sweeping generalisations that begin with "Americans" or "Irish" and then go on to observe that they are all clones.

Very hypocritical. You have borough shame on every decent American out there with your mindless ranting and vulgar insults. You have done nothing but strengthen peoples perceptions that the majority of Americans are loud, ignorant, arrogant, obnoxious, narrow minded, know-it-alls. Congratulations to you sir.

So you lived in NYC during 9/11...WOW. Not only did you live in the most self obssessed city in the us..well aside from LA/Hollywood, you lived there during the time when a few commercial airliners crashed into skyscrapers and the location/symbol of our defense department a few hours away. FYI, 99% of THIS country feels the same way about NYC. SO next time travel around a little before you make all encompassing remarks about a country based on one area. I personally hate dublin, but do i formulate a generalized opinion about the whole of ireland based on that? No.

I did travel around. Was on the east coast too and south so i know what im talking about. You poker have done nothing too dillute my distatste towards americans. The general tone of your self-rigtheous posts further accentuates my opinion based on MANY experiences for MANY years in MANY places. I have met some normal (almost) americans but some crazy mother fcukers too and IMO i don't like them and i can see why people in the middle east dont either. So instead of trying to force feed us the usual "we're not all that bad" bull-****, stand up and take account for what ye have done. The solidarity and patriotism dwindles when the wrongs committed by your nation is held up for all to see. To be honest when people refer to the west now i hope they refer to america only because for me (being irish and european) i dont want to be associated with a nation so set upon destruction. IMO anyone who elects a talking monkey are in the majority talking monkeys.
Enjoy the ban!! Go watch CNN.

while Cnn may be considered liberal in the states, it's still considered bat**** crazy most other places in the world.

I've been saying this for years. You're only fully Irish in my mind if your parents were born here and you were brought up in Ireland as well.

i duno about that.. i was brought up irish, in ireland, of ireland parents, i have a deep love for many aspects of the culture, the myths and legends, the language, the beauty of the country. im emigrating soon, to be with someone im in love with, and if we were to have kids, id bring them up quite aware of their irish roots, with as much of the irish language as i can pass on to them, even if it is just cúpla focail. some people are just raised a lot more aware of their roots than others. ive a friend in america who was raised by an irish mother, and an american father with two irish parents, and he always feels a certain grá for ireland, as he was brought up very aware of his roots, and his parents would often talk about it, or retell stories of their own pasts or their parents'.

This is probably not the place to put this but why the hell is it that only rich Americans claim to have Irish ancestry? I resent the way that Irish people think that Americans love us, this is not the case. Also they are Americans, not Italian-American, not Irish-American, not African-American....nothing.

WTF? what a load of B.S.

You clearly have never lived over here and have absolutely NO idea what you are talking about. Every shop or bar that i go into there is always someone their claiming to be Irish. Do you think that people who work in supermarkets all their lives are "rich"? They all think they are Irish and they all love the Irish.Ive never met one exception. I love ripping the piss out of them when they say they are Irish.when you hear the most American of American accents and they claim they are Irish i just ask them what part they are from or else say you sound Irish! they are all harmless over here and they are proud of their ancestory! nothing more than that really.

P.S if you think the ladies dont like the accent you 1. either have never been out in America before or 2. Have a face only your mother could love.:D
