I've just done the Leaving Cert and am awaiting the dreaded results (and my definite fail in HL History! Cringe!) I'm considering repeating, as I don't think i got enough points.
Anyone else considering repeating? And if you were to repeat would you do it at your old school or go to one of those special schools for repeating?

    Thanks!

    xoxo

I was considering repeating for a while and may still depending on the impending disaster that wednesday will be. If I do choose to repeat, I can't go back to my old school because the principal isn't allowing people to repeat (bitch) but i would never consider any of the grinds schools. I went for maths grinds at the institute last year and although they were good, they were in no way worth €600. In general they are overrated and imo the leaving cert relies a lot more on your own work/studying, not the quality of your teachers.

Repeated in Yeats Galway, thought it was great. Not. Ara, tis a tough year, and it crossed my mind a few times I could be in college instead of slogging it out, but it was worth it. Teachers are dedicated, no messing, great notes, and they force you to study with ye old lash and drum, which was handy for me. No regrets, really.

Im awaiting a fail in honours Bio.. I wish I had paid attention now. Oh well..

It has crossed my mind.. and if I were to repeat.. I would not do it in my old school.. its their fault my whole year had to get grinds in like every subject. Id go to Yeats in Galway.

Id rather not repeat.. obviously. So fingers crossed for wednesday! :)

Even if I got 25 points, I would NEVER repeat.
Each to their own I guess.
Wait till you get the results though.

I shall never repeat. I would rather be dragged over hot coals naked with people poking me with sporks then repeat the LC.

this attitude got me through the LC... Repeating was never an option, and, should I get 200 points, it still never will be!

I might repeat...depending on how I get on but I would never go to a grind school...I would go to my old school, I know the teachers, all of whom are great and I know the people.

    lol sporks:D
    sorry, easily amused:rolleyes:
I dunno, if you have to repeat and you have the cash, maybe you should think about the institute? I only went there for mid-term grinds, but in all honesty I learned more Irish in one week there than I did in 5 years with my normal teacher. No joke.. So I'd say it's worth it...

What!? I am very very thrifty! I am from Cavan after all. Also the spork thing is just a sign Ive been on the internet too long now. If actually had to repeat a subject, Id just teach myself. Just get ahld of the relevant text books and pour hundreds of man hours into knowing that subject. I will not have to repeat for points unless I dreamt all of my LC. This is mainly due to the fact Im doing a low-point course ( science)

I repeated, best year of my life!! Met plenty of new people who are some of my best friends now. It's still a tough year but try and do with somewhere which specialises in repeating because at least ye're all in it together supporting each other. I worked my ass off and still think I messed up a bit too much to get my course but I have no regrets. If you're uncertain about taking a course repeat because it's much better than hating a few weeks of college, being €2500 in debt and then having to repeat the whole thing all over again.

dont think id repeat either even though i messed up loads in the exams.. that wud make me 20 doing my leaving cert, that jus doesnt sound appealing to me... i certainly would not repeat in my old school, even the thoughts of going in there on wednesday to collect my results makes me shudder!!

Unless your absolutely set on doing something don't bother repeating. There's always a back door in and most people take that route. They just don't tell you that in the classroom. I did the LC 3 years ago now. Didn't get the required maths grade for UCD so did the same course in a less well known college and it's grand.

ye all say that now, i know someone who said they'd never repeat, 3 years later they sat it again and someone else who did it back in 1999 came back to do it again this year :)

No, no way in hell. I'd be really dissapointed if I didn't get my first choice and appealing didn't work, but I would gladly accept my second choice..after a week of being dissapointed! My cousin did the Leaving 3 years in a row to try and get the points for Veterinary, with the points she got one year, she could have got in the year before, but the points increased. She's in Budapest, doing Vet. there, but it just shows that it doesn't always work out if you repeat......and yeah, I could never do it. Besides, the system is against you. English course, completely changed. Geography and History, do a new topic. Irish same..but just barely, 2008 is the last year of the present stuff on that course.

    Uggh the thought of repeating!

    ^QFT

I know somebody who repeated, and got less points than the first year she sat the exam.
It is crazy to think that 2 years work is decided by a few hours of torture.
    The system is against us:p
Again two people is not enough to convince me otherwise.......
The leaving is too much of a lottery to be wasting years of your life stuck in a time warp.
I wonder if our European counterparts bear such a hostile school leaving exam?

Haha.I'd be the same way....except i'd be more like a month rather than a week.I mean I like my 2nd and 3rd choices....but I like my first one SOOOOO much more than the rest.

I will repeat if I get less than 400 points probably. A course I like is 400, a course Id love is 500. I put in NO effort this year, and could drop subjects I didn't like but suffered this year, like Irish for example!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 94 ✭✭KarmaCreep

I'm hoping for an A in Irish, but it's irrelevant at this point cause i'm not gonna get my coarse because Maths was a major let down.

the only As on my sheet wil be the ones indicating i took the higher level paper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,969 ✭✭✭christophicus

I'd say I failed everything bar music. For some exams I didnt even write anything on the inside of the answer paper. I may not be the smartest , but I'd say I can pass everything if I repeat and actually put some effort in. So yeah I am going to repeat, although not in the same school. The only reason I am not going to the same school is because I will probably fall into the same habits and do nothing all year. Thats why I am probably going to go to the local De le sal , where aparently they have a specific class for repeats.
