Laptop Keyboard Problem

Hi,

The left hand side only of my keyboard is not typing normal letters. It's as if a ctrl, alt or shift key is being pressed to produce other symbols. The right hand side is fine. I plugged in a keyboard to a usb slot at one point - could this have caused the problem? Any advice on how to rectify would be gratefully received.

Try holding Fn key down and tap Num Lock once

Thanks a lot for your help Biko. Apologies for my ignorance but what is Fn key? Sorry if I'm being foolish here.

If you look closely at the keyboard, there are a number of keys with extra writing on them. These keys are used to simulate a numeric keypad on standard keyboards.

You have locked the keyboard into some kind of mode, look carefully at the keys, you will find one with the letters "Fn" written on it (check the bottom-left of the keyboard) Hold down that along with either Caps Lock or Num Lock or some other combination. It may be a case of trial an error.
