Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does anyone know if there is a Swing Dance society still alive? I know there used to be, or at least a dance society where there were classes running but I don't remember ever having seen a stall for one during freshers week. So maybe someone might know?

Is anybody in the new Dodgeball club? Thinking of joining that! Sport that ya don't have to be fit for = good.

Do people just refuse to read the previous posts in a thread before posting or what? Two of us have already stated that we are part of the Dodgeball Club. You may not have to be particularly fit for Dodgeball, but you gotta be able to down a pint in less than 5 seconds. It's good craic, you should no longer think about joining and just join. Great way of relieving some stress - chucking objects at peoples heads... :D

hmmmm.... I did read it, but then I forgot :)

I can down a pint in 5 seconds, but then I get sick... Does that count? :D

Yeh I'll probs join. Watched a dodgeball tourney video on YouTube and it looks like great craic!

Once you get it all down, it doesn't matter whether it comes back up again or not. It is great craic. :D

If they really are gone, I might try running one or two nights. I like poker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,039 ✭✭✭Theresalwaysone

In fairness the C and E cant run a decent tourney. Yes, pokersoc is gone, UCD Admin dont want "gambling" on campus, we dont have any accounts from last year.... all in all its a pretty sad affair but dont worry, something will be on regarding weekly poker.

That's an issue? An absolute disgrace imo.
We've had nothing but support from the DCU SPC.

Best of luck in sorting something out...

Roc Soc (UCD's geological society...) is gonna be good this year!! It was pretty crap last year but this year we have a team of really dedicated people who are willing ta put alot of effort in to make it great again!! Even if you dont do geology it's still a good one ta join n I promise there's gonna be lots of interesting debates, talks, field trips and fun events, but it all depends on how many members we get so the more that join the better!!

And just a word of advice for freshers... Dont be taken in by the big flashy stands of some of the bigger societies in freshers week like C&E, B&L etc, they're only worth joining for the free stuff but after that ya'll probly barely see them 4 the rest of the year!! Make sure you join some of the smaller societies aswell as it's a much better way to make friends!!

Cant wait ta get back ta college!! Jus goin inta 3rd year n I'm lovin it!!

Jazz Soc - the society of unconditional love. Good fun for open-minded music fans, and not exclusively jazz: we have had jazz, klezmer, and funk bands play on campus, almost always for free. A trip to the Cork Jazz Festival is always an experience and there's even a hint at a trip to Eastern Europe at some stage, though at the moment it's just talk.

You don't have to be a musician (though it helps, especially in forming a band - there are plenty of talented musicians around) but a healthy interest in music is a great help. I'll be around during Fresher's Week if you want to ask about us - I'm the one with a beard, and more than likely a bass too. All the Jazz Soc guys are friendly and outgoing, as we feel there's no point in having a society if we're not caring about everyone. Feel welcome to shop around!

i've yet to wander over to the freshers tent. my interests lean more to the nerdy than sporty, and no b&l type...stuff. anyone recommend me anything to meet new people?

Nerdy as in joining Gamesoc nerdy? *hinthint*

Rafadagaffer, we were supposed to be running it today, but the plan is to have it outdoors by the lake, and today was not conducive to outdoor gaming. Alas. =(

I joined it two years ago and went for the first couple of weeks. They're very welcoming towards beginners and give you lots of tips and pointers. The workout is something else though!

Here's a free tip to anyone who joins - if given a choice between staying in the gym to train or going out "for a run", STAY IN THE GYM! Me and some other newbie felt the run would be a lot easier but you have to run huge swathes of the field and even do a bit of wrestling. I seriously thought I'd collapse and have never been more bolloxed from a workout than I was that day. Ah good times. :)

I recommend it to anyone who has time to commit to it.

Now that I've returned to Concrete city I decided to join L&H and B&L. Was thinking about joining GameSoc and PhotoSoc. Anyone know much about Photosoc? I've developed an interest in photography lately and figured this would be one way to deal with it.

    Yeeshk sounds intense!

Luckily I've changed my mind! :D I'm gonna join the Mixed Martial Arts club today and stick with that, cos I have a few months' experience of that.

Maybe I'll see some of ye there!
