Does anyone own one of the FN Five-seveN pistols? It fires the new 5.7x28mm bullet. It should perform very well in competition compared to the 9mm or .40S&W. It’s more of a small rifle round then a pistol round. It’s claimed to be accurate out to 50m.

Not that new, it's been around since the early 90's.
Anyhow, its main claim to fame (and alleged main design feature) is its ability to penetrate body armour in a pistol/sub-machine gun sized package. This puts it firmly in 'idontlikedalookodat' territory here as far as the Gardai and DOJ are concerned.
It's probably possible to licence one here (in the same way that it's possible to licence anything if you can persuade the powers that be to issue the paperwork), but I'd suspect that it'd require a confluence of an ice age in hell, several blue moons, and a veritable plague of flying pigs.

Oh man never saw one of those before,
wonder if they are any good. Reminds me of the special round
they made for the MP7 that I hear the armed section of the Gardai are getting.

How easy would it be to get ammo for?

    On a lighter note.......
I think it's the sidearm of choice for the crew of Battlestar Galactica (the new series & not the '70's version) :D & the P90 (same ammo) is the sub m/c gun gun of choice for the Stargete gang.

Not very easy to get the original ammunition for that round I'd imagine packas, since it's only legal to sell it to law enforcement and military purchasers, either within or without the EU. Even the US shooters couldn't purchase the FN or the P90 (and many still can't) because they were designed for the body armour piercing round. FN have since brought out a 5.7x28 ball round (and they've made a semi-auto only version of the P90) and these are available for civilians in the US. Not sure if you can get them in the EU, though I can't think of a legal reason as to why not off the top of my head.

Why exactly you'd want one I can't figure out though - they're pretty much designed for only one thing.

I handled one of these in the States recently but unfortunately did not get a chance to fire it. However, the guys over there said it was very accurate but that ammo was expensive. I think it's more of a novelty at the moment. Hard to know if it will catch on to any great extent.

Can't figure the exact reason why anyone would buy one but we all have our likes. Expect to pay really big bucks for the ammo, (if you can get it) !

Gardai would proably authorise it I suspect, simply becasue they have no idea what it is - or maybe that sounds far- fetched

LOL you beat me to the punch there. I had my gubby mits on the 5-7 and the P90 a few years ago. As a mil weapon the P90 is a savage bit of kit. Both were used to end the Peruvian Japenase Wmbassy Siege (hostage takes were all in body armour).

5-7 has a very large pistol grip due to the large mag capicity (20 rnds) which is uncomfortable in average or small hands. Other then that its nice. Cannt see it taking off over here with the specialist ammo though.

I think the ballistics and energy are the same as the .22 Hornet.
