Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Sevilla's flying full-back Dani Alves has signed for Premier League club Chelsea for around £22 million, Spanish media have reported.

In addition, the transfer is thought to pave the way for Chelsea and Netherlands winger Arjen Robben to shortly complete his long-expected move to Spanish champions Real Madrid.

Good player, always exciting to watch, no the best defender around but deadly going forward.

That's crazy money for a right back.
It just doesn't make sense to me.
That's the kind of money you pay for match winners and talented as he may be a right back can only have so much influence in a game.

Plus he's gonna be restricted playing his usual game as has happened to A. Cole since his move. And he's not even a great defender at that, right? Very strange transfer, as I thought Ferreira could maybe regain his previous form.

And Madrid signing Robben is strange too - aren't they getting in Drenthe? Plus they have Marcelo joined recently

JPA i wouldnt really say he is an out and out right back. He played right-wing for Brazil in the Copa final and played well. So Chelsea are signing a Right Back, a Right Mid and a Right Winger all in one short package with cool but scary looking eyes.

I guess RB is a problem position for Chelsea as Mourinho never liked Glen Johnson.

And when money isnt an issue Dani Alves is a player any club on earth would love to have. A player i really admire, shame hes gone to Chelski though.

Signing Drenthe could be a big mistake. He's just not ready for that move.
And they've signed Sneijder as well.

the 2 fee's being mentioned for Robben and Alves are baffling me. they are both good players but....

Alves is being signed as a right back and he's not a great defender and chelsea already have SWP and Joe Cole for right wing. Unholy amount of money for a RB IMO.

then there's Robben.... He's a very good player but he spends more time injured these days... to spend 20 odd million on a player who hasn't played a full season for 2 ish years is a major gamble

Robben is top class but seems very injury prone. Still, I firmly believe if he had joined United he'd be considered the best winger in the world right now.

Alves is a good defender, a cracking attacker. Mourinho won't let him stray too far up, but from what we've seen from Cheslea, maybe Mourinho is finally gona be an attacking manager. Maybe the owner had a quiet word and said he wants to see attacking football.

Cole and Alves is one mighty strong full back pairing for attacking, a pairing United or Arsenal would be proud of. That said, I think it's ludicrous to spend more than 15 million on a fullback, hell 10 million is pushing it,

That ain't a given. Did you watch Chelsea on Sunday? They played some wonderful attacking football. We may be seeing Jose about to take Chelsea in a new direction.

I hope so. One of the reasons I hate Chelsea isn't because of the money, but because they used that money to create a boring effective team. With that money spent, they should have an attacking lineup as good as Barcas

Alves is an exciting player, if overpriced. Interesting to see how he settles.

In this equation though Robben is the best player. Malouda is good, but I think Robben is a more finished article.

Dont get me wrong i wouldn't mind having him at United but you also need to have top quality back up for him when he's injured.

Mourinho said he was going back to the 4-3-3 formation from the 05/06 season which was more entertaining to watch.

didnt chelsea pay some huge fee for Paulo Ferriera? Alves couldnt be anymore of a flop than him i suppose but still far too much money

Alves and Malouda, as a Liverpool fan I'll be sick if these two set the PL alight!

Don't be daft. I don't think either of those players ever wanted to go to Liverpool, at least not like Torres did. They were after a big paycheck - hence joining Chelsea.

Benitez has said many times that he wants to sign players who want to play for Liverpool.

Plus, at least in the case of Alves, the price is completely unrealistic. Liverpool were offering £10M for him last year, which is where we value him. Now Chelsea are paying £25M?

Alves suggesting he would go on strike is a big mark against his character as well, although it seems to have engineered the deal.

    True enough

Alves will do well, but he really isn't a great defender. Sure Sevilla fans won't even miss him that much. I'll dislike him though, like I would any player who moves for money.

Why is moving to Chelsea automatically assumed a move for money? Maybe Alves and Malouda want to m ove to Chelsea to win things. There are certain players at Chelsea who are no doubt mercanaries, Cudicini springs to mind.
Malouda and Alves are going there not to just sit on the bench, they are gona be first team starters. I can't see how they are any different to Tevez or Torres.

    .

I don't know how you could call him a mercenary. We bought him for next to nothing and he had 2 good seasons before Raniari bought the second best keeper in the world. He was asked to stay and he did. Mercenary is very harsh, he could have had his choice of clubs 3 years ago and he stayed cos he liked the club

Alves was winning things at Sevilla. They had a good shout for La Liga, and they've won the UEFA cup two years running. Granted that's not the CL, but Chelsea are still a bit off winning that.

Chelsea have confirmed they are keen on signing Sevilla ace Daniel Alves, but insist they have not agreed a deal for the Brazilian.

Widespread reports on Wednesday claimed Chelsea were on the brink of signing of Alves after finally agreeing a fee with Sevilla.

Alves is looking to leave Sevilla and he has expressed his desire to secure a move to Stamford Bridge.

The attacking full-back left out of Sevilla's squad for Wednesday's UEFA Champions League qualifier with AEK Athens fuelling speculation that a move was imminent.

Chelsea have moved to clarify the situation revealing their interest in Alves, but playing down talk that a deal has been done.

A Chelsea statement read: "Chelsea have confirmed their interest in the player to the club but as yet there is no agreement."

Real Madrid are also believed to be chasing Alves and they could yet rival Chelsea for the South American's signature.

Seville are saying today that they rejected another Chelsea bid.

Looks like those reports were well off, I wonder what the bid was and if it'll be increased. Cichinho is also reportedly off to Roma, so they might renew their interest.

there is a report doing the rounds that Kenyon agreed a deal for Alves, which Seville accepted - he then told Roman so he could give the go ahead on it, and Abramovic refused to sanction teh reported £24.5million fee for a right back, and has told Kenyon the current terms are/were unacceptable and that he had to negotiate a better deal.

Subsequent reports claim that Seville have approached Real Madrid with a proposed swap deal of Alves for Baptista and Cicinho plus cash (17million) which Madrid rejected.
