Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Do you really use all the services that 3 offers? (thinking of switching from Meteor)

Am considering switching from boring Meteor to exciting 3 because:
    1- rates are low
2- seems that 3 have lots of fun features

At the mo all I do is talk n text as WAP is useless and expensive on Meteor and was investigating moving to 3. The only thing was- do people actually use all the bells and whistles that 3 offers?

I don't want to switch over, buy an expensive 3G phone and then find I'm bored with it. What do ya think?

and you can buy bandwidth in bulk, like €6 = 100MB or €10 = 250MB oe €30 = unlimited for 1 month. You can use this bandwidth for anything like surfing, ftp, irc, msn (although msn on 3 already does not use your bandwith cap) yahoo, g-chat etc.. etc...) providing your phone supports such application. I have a symbian phone so the above applications are no problem for me.

Cant beat the 5c texts/mms also to any network.

I use the internet on Opera Mini to read boards.ie on the train every morning. I have, untill recently, been using it to listen to bbc radio. You'd be surprised how useful Google maps has been and Gmail is great to have. I don't use messenger much but I don't really use that on the pc either. Video calling is good for the occasional laugh but has no real practical use. What I love though is AFT. I can text my brother in the States for 1c.

can't say I use planet 3 at all. My advice is to get 3mobile, don't get a text bundle, just mobile broadband and AFT. If you use it properly you will love it.

You can't use AFT on 3. they don't offer their customers free webtexts

I use my phone as a modem and I also use gmail. Their "3 as home" free roaming has come in very handy on quite a few occasions. UK calls being treated like Irish calls is handy. Their minute bundles are very good value also. For me they're by far the best operator and the negatives are outweighed by the positives.

I dont use every service but some. Im with three beacuse of their broadband service its excellent and extremely cheap. bear in mind (i may be corrrected) o2 and vodafone charge 2c per kilobyte. three charge €6 for 100 megabytes. which is 100,000 kilobytes.

now, i usually use about 50-60Mb a month, but if you were to use all 100mb on three its only 6 quid.

use 100mb on vodafone or 02, and it will cost-

    100,000kb x 2 cent = 200,000 cent = €2,000. Slight difference of €1,994.

Internet in work is monitored, so i use it on my phone. Rte news is very good too. If on billpay you can check how many remaining mins and txts and megabytes left in that month. A lot of people will tell you customer service is rubbish, but ive never had a problem with the phone (touch wood) so i cant really say there. just think how often you have to call meteor cust service, probably not a whole lot.

just re-read the post, sounds like i work for 3!! but seriously, id highly recommend them.

Yeah, I use AFT with SmsDiscount and Voipbuster. The prices change all the time but all I know is that I used to spend about 15 per month on international texts and 10 on my 3 bundle. I paid 25 to Smsdiscount 2 months ago, have about 2 euro left, and it works every time.

I have had my problems with 3 but in general they are the best network out there. They are by far and away the best value for calls and texts (was paying bout €80p/m on o2 and with 3 my bills went down to bout €40)
Customer care cant be fairly ineffective at times but there are always pleasant (not snotty cows like some of the other networks'!!) You will get the answers you need but maybe not in the shortest amount of time.
On the web issue, I find it incrediblely useful, from checking my online banking to gmail. it is far quicker then wap but dont expect full broadband speeds, will take bout 2-3sec to load google.com.
If you use the internet a lot at home then you will use it on the mobile. With x-series you can use skype (which I find works better then on a pc), use orb to access all the files on your pc, mobilcast for you podcasts and eBay.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone. Am leaning towards 3, but a bit daunted by the cost of the handset. Am a longtime Nokia use, so I'd go for the n73 probably, which is pricey. (€199 IIRC) If I was staying with Meteor, I'd upgrade to the 6300 for €49.

Yes, this is cheap for bandwith.

    .

I do use the internet a lot and skype too- like the idea of using it on my phone. If you were in a wifi hotspot you'd have free calls...

    Planet 3 is free- right?

UK calls as part of yr minutes are dead handy- Meteor used to have that when I signed up first. You could use yr minutes for UK landlines AND mobiles. It saved me a fortune at the time.

The N73 really is a great phone. I got my upgrade to it for ?99. As I have previously said, I reckon I am saving money on texts.

Planet 3 is free but I tend not to use it when I have unlimited mobile broadband.

You would need a phone that has wifi built in to do this.

    Yep

I think you misunderstand what he is saying. He means that roaming in the uk doesn't incur any roaming charges. It's like you never left Ireland. This is the same anywhere as long as you are on the three network.

Three offers good value, no doubt about that. The only thing that really bugs me is that you can't text to many foreign networks. If they don't have a roaming agreement with a foreign network you can't text to people on that network, even from Ireland. I often have to text to people on Vodafone UK, Orange, KPN and Vodafone in Holland and Germany and it isn't possible.
