See KK borough council are going to kerb the opening hours of all fast food outlets at night. In what is supposedly a city I find this move mind boggling.

And don't get me started on the new and completely inpractical oneway thing around the Comer and Dublin roads. Also the handling of the Ring road project has been frankly outrageous. It started work in early 2005- it's taken almost 3 years to finish by the time it will open...

I doubt they have any legal right to even attempt such a move.

Well I think that a lot of it is to do with Supermacs. When they were given planning permission initially, one of the conditions was that they close by 11 or 12. They have never complied with their required closing time.

I have never heard of a supermacs being closed by 12, ever. :D

Thats the stupidest thing I've ever heard re planning. If KK is supposedly a city then such places should be allowed open any times they wish. Afterall any city i've ever been one could get food at any hour they wish practically. I f the demand is there why should the Council block it (like they did with tesco etc)

Also theyre winging about Byrnes toystore selling non-bulky items in Loughboy. Big bloody deal. About time we had a few shops outside the beloved centre of town, save us trapsing in everytime we want to buya new pen!!!

Welcome to our planning system. I did my dissertation on Kilkenny's planning, and they didnt exactly come out glowing.

    Kilkenny has planning?

It's definitely got some of the worst infrastructure I've come across in Ireland. The roads in the county are almost all glorified boreens, with the exception of the road to Carlow. The train service is crap. The city is gridlocked these days. Oh, and they put pedestrian crossings in dangerous places. They only let large stores into the city when people got into their cars and drove to Carlow to shop there. I've never come across such a protectionist bunch in my life. Will they let Tesco in?

It's nuts that they're opening McDonagh Junction soon without the very necessary infrastructure that's needed being put in place. I shudder to think what the traffic's going to be like. Better get out me raingear and start walking to work.

Tesco is coming here, as they will be the anchor tenant in the mart.

Dunnes are putting pressure on to open in october... Why?? not as if it's gonna be some sort of megastore or somthing. Let's face it.. this city is run by idiots, morons, who cannot look any further than their next brown envelope. It's no wonder carlow is pulling ahead of Kilkenny when it comes to shopping.

I remember when Supermacs first opened there was war because of the litter around the town. Then it was decided that you couldnt bring food outside the place. I remember sneakin a burger out in my pocket. At the time I was 12. I even think they went as far as having someone on the door to make sure you couldnt bring food out. What a joke.

Why do we keep electing them? We are getting what we deserve by continually giving the power to incompetent politicians.

Agreed, I'm NOT voting next time.:(

The problem is that there are enough morons around who do vote them back in time and time again.

Why do we need 3 Dunnes Stores within 2 km of each other?

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

    We don't :(

What pisses me off is that their solution to any challenging problem seems to be banning stuff.

People getting rowdy outside late night fast food places? Ban late night opening for fast food, problem solved!!1
The same applies to people knocking seven shades of sh1te out of each other coming out of clubs. Make 'em close earlier, problem solved!!11!!! Lets ignore the fact that they'll still all be fecked out on the street at the same time

What is happening in Kilkenny!!!!Nevermind the silly closing of all bars and clubs at 1.30am,now takeaways:mad:

All this screams Nanny State to me. If i want to go to Supermacs to at two in the morn I don't see why KK Borough council can stop free enterprise and choice like that.
Same re shops and choice outside of High Street...

I've heard talk of Supermacs being closed earlier also, on one hand could be a good idea - the trouble caused on high street some nights is scandelous - but on the other hand i think it'll get up many people's noses. Can't see it happening in the near future though. Although some nightclubs have had to close earlier in recent times... Who knows?

I thought when Supermacs got planning, they were issued it on the basis that it was a restaurant and not a take-away?

On the Dunnes issue, I really dont see why we need 3 stores in Kilkenny...but having said that there are 3 in Clonmel too.

Excuse a Blah looking in! I imagine Dunnes want to make full use of the extra traffic during the pre-Xmas shopping binge.

    Mike

ps mfitzy Kilkenny is a town borough under the local authorites act. :)

Would opening more food oulets late on popular socialising nights not be a better answer?
Supermacs at the mo is abs mobbed at 3am on a Sunday morning and the large queues/crowds in one small place do cause problems, fair enough. I cant see how denying people food helps. What are crowds supposed to do.. everyone cram into Uncle Sams? Not eat?
The problem is a drunk crowd outside Supermacs, the solution is not a drunk and starving crowd standing around.

Please don't start that argument mike, it just leads to flamewars and thread closures :(

What???????????Who gives a S***e what KK is under that act?? I have never read something so irrelevant in any thread here to date! And i always refer to KK's local authority as Borough Council, so haven't a clue where that p.s. came from :confused: !!!

Mike, I've never seen a disrespectful post like this from you before. This is a disappointment. I hope you were just trying to be funny.
